I've introduced myself in the new member section a while ago but I've decided to create my own thread to track the progress of my project. I hope everyone enjoys it!

For starters, my name is Alex and I recently purchased my first single family home at the young age of 22! (Thanks to working 70+ hours a week :shocking: haha) I have acquired some tools from friends and family mostly for free including the compressor. Within the next few years I plan on building Factory Five's Project 818. Since most do not know what it is, here is a link:

https://www.factoryfive.com/kits/project-818/

Right now I am not planning on finishing the walls/ ceiling since that is not in my budget at the moment. I am looking to optimize the small amount of space I have (12 x 22) so I can have the most amount of floor space as possible to build this kit. This will be a slow build but will hopefully spark the interest of others.

There are two areas I would like some advice on and hopefully someone can help me out.

First of all, I am a hockey player and I am finding difficulty locating a storage location for my bag. This bag will need to accessed on a weekly basis so it can not be too difficult to grab.

Secondly, does anyone have any tips on how to deal with the brick fireplace that comes into my garage? haha I know it can't be removed obviously, but maybe there is a way to optimize the space somehow.

Anyways, enough talking. Lets move onto some pictures!

That brick fireplace is the best part of the garage! It's begging for a blacked framed automotive print to be mounted on it with a museum light!

Congrats on your new garage
Make it pretty. The bricks give the place character so put a closet on the front side of it
The 818 project looks like a huge and fun challenge
Good luck and welcome to the J.G.

The brick is cool looking, but takes away a lot of space. Eventually I will find a way to embrace its beauty haha

I like that idea for the closet in that little space, I will most likely do that. I also need to find a location for a work bench if possible.

The 818 will be a fun (also frustrating) project, but in the end, the results will be worth every blood, sweat and tears!

Here is a purchase I just picked up!
Got it on sale!

I didn't know the 818's were available yet, I've been on the mailing list for about a year now and get regular updates from Factory Five on everything else they're doing, but I still hadn't gotten a production date on the 818 kit.

What did they tell you about delivery time?

The 818 started production in mid-June if I remember correctly. I went to the open house they had on June 10th where they finally revealed it to the public. I will be purchasing a donor car for the complete swap so I have not put in my official deposit yet as I would like to get all the parts removed and cleaned before I go to pick up the actual kit. Plus I also would like for the first kits to be built so any first production problems will be sorted out by then.

Thanks!

The 818 is a great car that only weights 1800 lbs and with a 300 whp subaru motor, it should be a lot of fun!

The whalers bag I picked up for free on the side of the road. It's very old school since it uses a tarp like material but it is extremely durable.

Btw, I was looking at your thread the other day and I am very impressed with the way your garage came out. I wish mine looked half as good as yours.

You probably already know about this, but Grassroots Motorsports magazine is building an 818: http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/project-cars/2013-factory-five-818/ It looks like a pretty neat car.

I did actually see that. I've been looking at their YouTube videos along with some of the other cars being built in factory fives forum.

I just hope my garage is big enough and has the proper tools to build something like this.
