I think the reason for not accepting money orders / bank checks is due to the amount of fraudulent Money orders and the like floating out there. He’s just protecting himself as you would if you where in his shoes.

OP,

Might I suggest setting up a PayPal account, its safer than sending cash and as a added benefit it protects both the seller and the buyer.

Man I never thought of fraudulent Money orders, but anything is possible now days! Yeah he really should consider setting up a PayPal account because unless he sells to someone local no one here is going to send money through Mail! There's always sending money Western Union but that seems like alot of trouble.

USPS money orders are pretty bulletproof. The reason why, is that they have the law on their side to pursue frauds. As opposed to, for example, the local grocery store, which has no real way of pursuing fraud.

Yup, my Ebay auctions state PP or USPS money orders, they are also nice because the post office will cash them.

Are you still able to specify USPS MO's as payment for eBay? If so, how do you do it, is there a trick to it? Whenever I try to list with MO as an option, eBay sends me a warning that I can offer either PayPal or take Credit Cards directly, nothing else. :headscrat

USPS MOs are one of the biggest reproduced ones out there. There is a huge fraud problem with people using fake ones. They are really good fakes too. Take them to the USPO, they can usually tell if they are fake.

Nothing is really bulletproof.

Point taken. What I meant by "bulletproof" (which in retrospect was an overstatement) is that with USPS MOs, you can pursue shysters, because any misuse of a USPS MO is "mail fraud" and that can (not necessarily "will") be taken seriously by law enforcement. I meant to compare a USPS MO to a MO drawn at a local store, which has no ability to enforce.

Sorry for the confusion fellas. I got lazy and cut/paste what I put in the local craigslist. I'd prefer to sell locally as I am unsure how much it would cost to ship due to the weight.
