Can anyone date this set? I think it's the oldest one I've had in the shop...

It's tough because they used that logo for a long time. All I can say is that its pre 1962 which doesn't help much.

Are there any "recessed grooves" in the socket drive end?

From doing more reading on the subject I see what you guys mean by SK being hard to assign a date of manufacture. Here is a pic of a few of the sockets if this helps anyone narrow it down.

toolguynj,....Are your 7/16, 1/2, and 9/16 sockets 6 point or 12 point?

By the mid 40's the S-K Chrome stamping had been replaced with just S-K. About 1957 the 12 point 7/16, 1/2, and 9/16 were replaced with 6 point sockets. (Information taken from Alloy Artifacts site.)

On these assumptions the set would be from mid-40's to 1957?

Here's a pic of the breaker bar - the hole you can see in the handle is round. I forgot to check in the end of the handle.

Yes, they are all 12 pt sockets

I just picked up an SK breaker from a yard sale that has the hole in the end of the handle. Having never seen that before, I thought it was pretty neat.
