Hi Everyone,

Can you guys show pictures of the way you organize your stock?

I often have trouble choosing between organizing by type of metal, or shape of stock, because organizing by shape and size is more efficient for space in a home shop.

But it makes more sense to keep the like metals together of course, but this leads to odd shapes all over the place.

It is also nice to maintain easy access visually.

Do you use heavy drawers? PVC tubes? Shelves? Bins? I have done all of the above, but am moving my shop and have an opportunity to "do it right" this time.

Thanks for your input!

I'm sure the OP appreicates the responses...... 7 months after he asked the question. :eyecrazy:

Bernie, I hope your still around. What type of stock are you trying to store? I have bits and pieces shoved in corners here and there. Solid stuff <~18" is in a file cabinet. Long smaller pieces are hung up high on a shelf above the garage door. Sadly I have a pile of misc stuff. Things that are too good to toss, yet have features like holes and slots already in them.

Ya I was browsing through older threads of this year. Thought this was a good topic, so I brought it back to light.

I use a lot of this, it has been sorted since. As I scrap out I process anything I might be able to use, some gets sent to china and good typical stuff I can store goes on the shelf. I got a bit in the yard I can sort when the time comes but this is super nice for design and I have been to the steel yard once in the last year for a couple 20 ft bars, I am not opposed to getting a few small angles and strips new.
