From the GearWrench Facebook page today:

Some exciting product news from GearWrench - we just announced the 84-Tooth Long Handle Ratchet. The handle on the new ratchets is over 25 percent longer than standard ratchets offering increased reach and greater leverage, making it easy for technicians to start fasteners in the most confined of spaces.

The 84-Tooth Long Handle Ratchets are available in either full-polish or cushion grip in the following drive sizes: 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch. GearWrench is also offering a 2-piece Full Polish Mixed Set (SKU# 81268), which includes 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch drive sizes.

Contact your local distributor to learn more about purchasing them today.

Thanks for the link. The prices seem pretty reasonable for a long handled fine tooth ratchet.

Are these serviceable with Matco kits & vice versa?

What internals interchange with others?

Handle swaps covered in a thread here?

Very affordable.

They are compatible with the Matco 60/88 kits,Armstrong 60/88 kits, and the other Gearwrench 60/84s except the 120xp.Maybe the Craftsman premium 84 kit,I don't remember.

Maybe Trident supply can get some in soon.:D

It would be nice.I'm glad I didn't jump on the TLL72 or the Matco AFR88T because the GW seems to be my next purchase.lol.The 17" fixed head 1/2 drive might not be a bad purchase either.

kits from matco, gearwrench, and armstrong all interchange, and craftsman premium will work. the only one that wont work the other way is the craftsman premium, the kit will work in other brands but others wont work in the craftsman ratchet body.

I got scared for a second, I just ordered a 84t Flex head 1/2" which I have waited for it to be released in cushion grip for 6 months. It would be just my luck that they would come out with one right after I place my order.

Do these seem kind of pointless to anyone else? They are just marginally longer than the flex heads, might be about 15% longer.

Also it is very interesting that these are only available in 84t, I wonder why they didn't use 120xp?

i think its been known the 120xp is not as strong as the 84t, which is the strongest of the bunch. someone correct me if im remembering that incorrectly.

120XP's are rated at 180% of ASME torque (which is the same as the 60T rating), while the 84 are rated at 190%. So marginally weaker, as I believe the difference in the 3/8 drive ratchet is 10-20 ft-lbs.

Ive got a question for anyone with the 120xp flex ratchets ive been looking online trying to find out the length of these ratchets no site has posted there length. I really like a longer ratchet like 12 or 13 inches for the 3/8 and want to try the 120xp ratchets I want to get the 4 pice full polish set cuase I think the stubby would be really useful but it the regularly 3/8 is only like 9 inchs or so I dont feel like I will use it. Thanks in advance

The soft grip ramps the price up a bit.... But 90 odd dollars for all three
steel handle ones seems like a good price.

I personally prefer my long ratchets in flex head as they peform double duty.
Also I'm only a DIYer, so rarely do they come out to play. But if I was a pro
I think 90 Dollars would be well worth it to have these in the tool kit.

These are interesting. I like XL non-flex ratchets. But I like locking flex ratchets most of all.

Until they add a locking flex GearWrench ratchet, the Armstrong locking flex ratchets will still -IMO- be the best out of all the Apex Tools ratchets.

I wonder if they'll ever add a locking GW flex, or if they'll keep that for their higher-priced industrial brand?

I find the detent that GW uses to be all that is necessary to reach fasteners without the head moving. I like it better than the way the Dual 80's work with the adjustment screw.

That said with all locking and the GE design you are limited to how many different angles you can do.

per gearwrench on facebook:

The 84T Long Handle Ratchet will be available in early September. As with many of our new product launches, we like to give our Facebook fans a sneak peek at new innovations before they are widely available. We'll post more information in the coming weeks.

Tooloutfitters.com just sent me an email saying these are in stock.

I was going to order the 1/4" drive ($26) but shipping was almost $14 so that killed it for me. If you are ordering a couple items I guess it would probably be easier to digest.

I am having problems with the site right now but it was working for me this morning.

1/4"

3/8"

Hey, got my Gearwrench XL ratchets today. Got 1/4 and 3/8 drive full polish versions which are included in the 81268 set. However, they're not nearly as long as someone posted earlier in the thread. The 3/8 comes in at just under 11 inches while the 1/4 is just under 7 inches long. No chrome issues as people reported with a recent 120xp promotion, Taiwan made.:)
