I don't own any matco tools so I have never had to do a warranty before. Did they send you a free shipping label to send it in? Just curious.

Back on topic, I'm sure there are plenty of tools that have gone up in price that we all receive for warranty as well. Price shouldn't matter, instead the quality of the tool. Sounds like you are not happy, but you win some, you lose some.

both of their websites still list Danaher as the parent corp.

But the Apex Tools website does not list Matco as a subsidiary, that would be the most definitive answer seeing as they were both originally a part of Danaher tools.

Also the only reason Armstrong is so set on maintaining USA made tools is due to government (ie military) contracts, I would argue the same for Snap On.

No, they do not give you a pre paid shipping label.

Ok I called Matco back and the customer service person offered to trade the hammer for a green trusty cook version. She told me the company changed hands and also changed vendors. As soon as the stock of Trusty hammers is gone the new quote on quote better Taiwanese hammers will be all that's left.

Trusty Cook changed hands or Matco?

Aren't they the same as Armstrong?

Yes and no. Matco, for quite awhile, offered many more variations than Armstrong and they had the Opti-Torque Pro open ends exclusive for many years.

Matco changed hands as previously stated. What scared me the most was if trusty cook went over seas but they didn't Matco just changed distributers when they went off on their own. This is all based upon what customer service told me. At least they were kind enough to exchange the Taiwan one for one of the last Trusty Cook versions. I like green too so I'm happy.

A point if clarification. MATCO didn't change hands. All of Danaher's tool companies except Matco traded hands.

Danaher spun off all its tool companies except Matco into Apex Tools. Apex was a joint venture between Cooper and Danaher. Cooper also put tool companies into Apex. Then recently Apex was sold to Bain Capital.

So, Danaher still owns Matco, but not any of the other tool companies they used to own.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I did not want to start new one. I recently sent out a box of tools to be warrantied out by Matco. You think with all the information they require such as e-mail address as phone numbers they would at least reach out to you saying that they received your package and are beginning the warranty process. Even better to boot they sent back each warrantied item in separate orders. Another mind blowing blunder is that they sent me back with a STANLEY Hammer...NO MAC MARKINGS! So if this one goes I feel I am unprotected when I warranty it out. Says Stanley not MAC have a nice day!

You sent Mac tools to Matco? And Matco gave you a Stanley hammer for your broken Mac? I think that is the best service ever. You sent a box of tools in? I have been using tools since the late 90's mostly in a pro setting and have not broken enough tools in that time to send a box back to. Let alone enough to fill a box from one company.

Aww F*ck, sorry MAC tools to MAC. MAC is banned from coming to my shop b/c he kept screwing around with my co-workers and would not stand behind their products. Ex: If someone broke a ratchet the MAC dealer would say "The item has been discontinued MAC will warranty it out but you have to pay a $10 upgrade fee. That was all fine and dandy till my Tech in Charge broke a screw driver and was given the same line and freaked out. After that MAC has been banned from the shop for about 10-15 years. A few of the guys have broke a few MAC tools so I killed a few birds with one stone. 3 Techs participated for a total 8-9 items (Snap Ring Pliers, Dead Blow, Wrench, Ratchet & Misc Sockets).

Sure looks like they are still USA and still available...

Edit: It looks like all of the GREEN ones are still USA. All of the red ones are Taiwan. Strange. I'd make them replace it with a USA green one and then stop doing business with them. Bad decision Matco!

Awesome! I'm glad you were able to get the Taiwan one swapped for the USA version. Green is cooler anyway

Hello All - Jeff, VP Sales at Trusty Cook (Trustyhammers.com), and new to Garage Journal and glad to be here to clear up some confusion about the Dead Blow Hammer Market...... Trusty Cook of course offers all full line of DEADBLOW Soft Face, Sledge, Ball Peen and Metal Shaping Bossing Hammers (new to market and only deadblow bossing mallet in Industry) that can be purchased at Trustyhammers.com. We are very proud to still be manufacturing ALL our hammers 100% in the USA at our Indianapolis, IN plant! We also are PROUD to private label a full line of Dead Blow Hammers for several BIG NAMES in the Hand Tool Arena - Armstrong Tools (Red Color), Cornwell Tools (Red Color), MATCO TOOLS (Only the Green Ones - the red and clack ones are imports and not made by Trusty Cook), SK Tools (Red), Estwing Mfg. (The Red CCD Models/CCD45 is in Home Depot and all the Grey Ones with blue rubber grips), and finally Snap-On Tools - We only make the Sledge Hammer Models branded as Blue-Point for them, their soft face and ball peens are an injected molded hammer they went to years ago. I have also seen some confusion on hammer weights, particularly the Ball peens, the Part Number for our brand ends with the HEAD WEIGHT (not total weight) - example TCBP16 (head weight is 16 oz and total weight is 26 oz.) We did this years ago to comply to GSA (Military/Gov't) Contract Standards/Specs. Confusing I know, but the weights are accurate on our brand. We do offer a 2 year warranty against manufacturer defects (on our brand only - private label brands control warranties on their products even if made by TC). Warranty outside 2 years is discretionary on a case by case basis, but we are pretty good guys who always like to hear from our customers with any feedback or stories about our Deadblows! We recently won top dog ranking in Truckin Magazines Tool Test on Dead Blow Ball Peens...check out the January Issue for details...and please take a look at our full line at Trustyhammers.com or any of our Private Label Customers!!! Thanks again for the welcome to Garage Journal!

Hi all, Jeff, VP of sales with Trusty Cook (Trustyhammers.com) and new to GJ .. To clarify the confusion related to MATCO Tools .... We are proud to still be making ONLY the Green MATCO deadblow soft face and ball peen hammers 100% in the USA!! It is our understanding that the imported red MATCO deadblows that have confused the market have been discontinued not the green ones made by us at Trusty Cook so loyal MATCO customers should still be able to go green if they choose!!

Also to clarify, Trusty Cook has never had any plans to take our premium quality deadblow hammer line offshore! We remain committed to our great production team and employees and our customers who have and continue to support Made in the USA products! Original and still the best!!
