Does anyone have a screenshot of what they were selling back when we purchased them...as in showing the black case and/or USA...in pictures or text?

Did they ever show the packaging in the Amazon listing? I don't remember if they did.

The current image they have of the punches shows they're different. The ones in the pic (the Amazon pic, not the ones uploaded by disgruntled GJ members) shows them shaped slightly differently with a "USA" stamp on the shaft.

Mine came today. The same fake ones that every one else received. Scathing Amazon review forthcoming.

Received mine today, same unmarked set as the last few

Also received an email about sending back the single punch from the orginal order?

yea...I don't remember either. :dunno:

Don't believe they ever showed the packaging, but they definitely showed the punches which all had the Browne and Sharpe logo and USA on them

The Epstein link is the nail in the coffin on this one. FWIW, to Mohawk Dave, the original singletons were clearly marked USA.

I was specifically allowed to keep my single punch.

The thing to do is to simply return them. Amazon is good about this kind of thing, they just got screwed by a supplier.

Ha! I called Hexagon Metrology /B&S to inquire. They are closed until August 19. Completely shutdown; nobody in that division to take a call.

Sure glad I don't need them to help me with a real problem today...

Has anyone been able to locate this punch set anywhere on the Hexagon website? I have searched and can't find it.

Yeah, I got the same set the rest of you did today. But I didn't have a punch set, and for $11, I'm not going to get too upset about it. I'll live.

To be honest I have better things to do than waste more of my money and time complaining. Yes, it was a sleazy move. Ill leave an amazon review, make a note of their sleazy actions and look elsewhere when I find Im in a need of another precision tool.

I havent examined mine closely, but I suspect I might just keep them around the house as long as the shafts measure out to the correct diameter.

On the other side of this I bet they thought we were a bunch of resellers and they could pull a fast one by simply stamping a logo on the box. Cant wait to see all the pics on the amazon reviews slamming the vendor.:willy_nil

i got the same. i'll probably keep them as i don't think amazon can do anything. very strange to see B&S lose customers over a few grand. maybe they sold a hundred or so? maybe they lose $20-$30 per set? how much is your reputation worth?

If you look very closely at the 599-767 number printed on the clear case flap. you can see the impression of the number 6300-008 remaining in the vinyl which is exactly the part number of the set on Harry Epstein's site.

I can't believe that Hex Met (B&S) did or sanctioned this. Amazon must have done it to minimize their loss from f**king up the price. As pointed out in a few posts earlier, how much could the loss really have been relative to Amazon's revenue and profit?

I highly doubt Amazon would have done something like this that would require manual intervention. If they couldn't supply the item then they'd simply cancel the orders.

It appears that Hexagon is just a holding company that "whored" out the old B&S name. (very common these days)

It'll be very interesting to see Hexagon's response to all this.

I agree, Amazon would not be orchestrating this “switch”, more likely a Hexagon maneuver. These punch sets are the same/similar to those sold by Epstein’s which are distributed by PEC (#6300-008). Numerous tool suppliers sell this same set ranging in price from about $15 to upwards of $60. In fact there is a listing on Amazon.co.uk at a whopping 58 GBP. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008B5CUJ0/?tag=atomicindustr-21 ...and Wholesale Tool Company sells an 8-piece punch set that looks to be same/similar for $5.95 a set.

Bottom line, the punches in the set are not the same as the single punches most of us received... and they certainly do not appear to be the quality most of us have experienced from Brown and Sharpe tools. Are they worth the $11 plus shipping?? Maybe – maybe not. Was it a good deal? Probably not and for certain they are not what we believed they would be. I’m sending mine back, if only to make a statement that I do not wish to do business in this fashion and will not purchase tools with the B&S trademark.

Yea, but...

Presumably, it was Amazon'e mistake by publishing a grossly incorrect price for the genuine B&S item. Why would Hex Met care if Amazon ate $20 per order?

That’s not a presumption that I’m willing to hang my hat on. I have no idea how/why the sale price got listed on Amazon at 11.49. For all I know a price reduction was initiated to liquidate some stock… and perhaps it generated a high demand, and someone is filling that demand. I just don’t think Amazon went to lengths of relabeling a lessor quality punch set with B&S name and part no. over top a previously stamped no. #6300-008 which appears to be a PEC punch set.

Exactly right. 99% chance that some supplier got busted for trying to pull a fast one.

It's a teensy case of the more general situation. Inflation has been hidden for years by reducing the quality of manufactured goods (or the size in the case of consumables).

I think there's a place out there for a website that buys, say, a Hobarth-era Kitchenaid mixer, one from 20 years ago or so, and a brand new one. Pull apart the identical looking products, and do an analysis on the internals.

The most obvious case to me is in home furniture. It's flat astounding how bad it has gotten.

Has anyone called Hex Met and see if they might trade them out for the USA stuff. I tried today, but to get their # they wanted an email request...unless I was wrong on the internet navigation....maybe.

They may say no, but, hey, I always ask for a discount at the check stand, and get it 40% of the time.

(If you're wondering why/how I ask, I learned from my old man. Ask for a discount, if it's a girl/woman, and they ask "Why?", say "Because you have a really pretty smile." And smile.

And if it's a guy, say, " Because you're a cool dude, and I'd definitely do the same for you friend."

You'd be surprised how often they punch in the employee discount. A lot of people like to be recognized for a good deed and appreciated.)

Well I'm not sure where the switch to a cheap import happened, but in any case the item is no longer available on Amazon, and has no date listed for when it will become available again.

I had a replacement request in order and was about to ship mine back just to see if I'd get something different back. I just got this email this morning.

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear that you received incomplete shipment.

I'd like to replace you order, but I checked the item "Brown & Sharpe 599-767 8 Piece Hardened Steel Drive Pin Punch Set, 1/16" - 5/16" Measuring Face, 4" Length " on our website and see that this item is badged as 'Item Under Review'.

Here is the link to check :

So alxdgr8s post above got me motivated to complain to customer service last night and I got this in reply:

Hello,

I'm so sorry to hear about the problem with this item. When something like this happens, I'd normally send out a replacement order. In this case, though, we don't have any more stock of the "Brown & Sharpe 599-767 8 Piece Hardened Steel Drive Pin Punch Set, 1/16" - 5/16" Measuring Face, 4" Length ".

Since I'm not able to issue a replacement order, I've requested full refund of $11.59 to your Visa Card, the price of the Steel Drive when you originally ordered it will credit within 2-3 business days.

Once processed, you'll also be able to see the refund here:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/css/summary

You don't need to return the incorrect item that you've received.

As a compensation for the inconvenience caused, I've also issued a $5.00 promotional amount to your account, which will automatically apply the next time you order an item sold and shipped by Amazon.com.

As someone has already said, there is some entertainment value here.

Hello,

I'm really sorry about this mix-up, and for the fact that the Brown & Sharpe 599-767 8 Piece Hardened Steel Drive Pin Punch Set, 1/16" - 5/16" Measuring Face, 4" Length you received did not appear to be in new condition. It's certainly not our intention to ship used products to our customers, and we'll investigate the origin of this problem.

To make this right for you, I've requested a full refund of $11.59 for the item. This refund will appear in the next 2-3 business days as a credit on the original payment method used for the order.

Once processed, you'll also be able to see the refund here:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/css/summary/edit.html?orderID=105-6425883-4309849

There's no need to return the item. You're welcome to keep, donate, or dispose of it--whichever option is most appropriate and convenient for you.

To compensate for any convenience, I'd suggest that you place a new order for this item with Amazon.com(Items fulfilled by Amazon.com) using One-day Shipping and write back us with the new order number we'll either waive off or refund the shipping charges. I've provided the listing below:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0053187RO/?tag=atomicindus08-20

One of our aims at Amazon.com is to provide a convenient and efficient service; in this case, we haven't met that standard. I'm truly sorry, and I hope you'll give us another chance in the future.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Best regards,
Pavithra G.

I complained via chat and after reading everyones posts, I was not as lucky on getting free stuff. I got no offer to keep the items and get a refund nor an exchange offer. I did just send my back and have already dropped them off at UPS drop box for a refund.

I think I would email customer service and not chat
