I spoke to an Amazon rep and explained that the punch set appeared to be bogus. I asked if the punch sets were coming from B&S or a 3rd party supplier. He said all indications are they came from B&S. Best he could do is offer a refund.

I got an email back saying that I can return the punches I have and then if I order the Starrett set (that I suggested they send as an equivalent) and send them the order number they will refund me the difference in price to the $11.59. So I have to wait for a refund of the original price, ship back the set I have, purchase the Starrett set at full price, and then wait again for a refund to bring the price back down to $11.59...

I'm not going to try to talk or complain my way into getting a Starrett set. I don't think I would feel right about trying to get them to give me a Starrett set, because those never were discounted to this low price.

Amazon handled it as well as I think they should. They sent me a return label and issued a refund as soon as I dropped it off at UPS.

I'm not telling other members what to do, but I think trying to get them to give me a Starrett set would feel like I'm weaseling my way into something I didn't pay for. I took a shot on a super cheap punch set, it turned out to be too good to be true, and Amazon gave me my money back with no hassle. I'm not really out anything except a few minutes of time, and I'm OK with that.

I requested a refund too and it was granted quickly.

They said to keep the single punches as it would be more expensive to ship these back from the Philippines to the United States.

My take on this ( based on previous experiences with amazon ) is that if the orig B&S punch sets were available then they would deliver.

Emailed Amazon with the whole story, respectfully and indicating my sincere disappointment with Amazon.

They have processed a credit of the $11.99 and never asked about returning the item...

My objective was not to get something for free. My objective is to make them feel pain so they have good reason to avoid such behavior in the future.

I will call Hex Met/B&S tomorrow (now that they are off a 100% shutdown!). I want to know who did the dirty deed, Amazon or Hex Met.

Film at eleven.

Per my conversation with B&S customer service today, I found out the 599-767 Punch set is no longer made in USA. Apparently B&S could not be competitive paying the increasing high cost of manufacture from their U.S. supplier. The B&S rep. told me they would have to raise the price 4x's current price to maintain U.S. production. Consequently the new punch sets are now manufactured in India.

I'm going to keep mine since it still comes out cheaper than buying it from Epsteins and it doesn't look like it'll be possible to get a USA set regardless.

Still a shame that they will no longer be made in the US though.

So it appears this little mess has cost me money. $2.32 restocking fee was applied to the credit despite me indicating on the online return request that I didn't get what was advertised. I'm annoyed, but not enough to call them and deal with it. So just an FYI to those of you thinking about using Amazon's return policy to send it back, read the refund email.
