Paint magic.
Abandoned building entryway of stucco and river rock, painted white, cottage door with 9 windowlights over two vertical panels. Outside of Yancyville, NC. My first reaction was, "They should have left the rock unpainted", but that would be what was expected.
Look again more closely. The white transforms the entryway to complexity that I appreciate the more I study the contrasting textures. Note the subtle interplay between the river rock, the convex motar joints, and the stucco surface. Sometimes the unexpected can surprise, especially here with the monochromatic idea of the entryway.
Dunno. I doubt the former owner gave it that much thought. What do you think?
At the opposite end of the spectrum is this house. I would not have thought this house/gable end/garage door coordinated with the roof and foundation paint scheme would work, but I kind of like it.
And yet, maybe too much, a little too contrived. What do you think? Downtown Knoxville, TN.
And sometimes you end up with very pleasing color results, not due to careful thought or anything else other than time and the elements. Door inset on a door. Note the contrasting but subdued colors due to weather and wear.
Handsome. Doesn't need a thing, because it can't be improved. Garage door happenstance still-life.
Wow, who would have thought?
