So my dad talked me into going with a Cove Moulding around the top of the wall...easier then mudding the corners, after getting some quotes...also cheaper then mudding the corners. All was fine until tonight when I saw what they delivered...instead of plain 1-3/4" Cove, they sent me 1-3/4" Bed Moulding. A tad fancy for my tastes..so I called the Lumberyard...long story short is the moulding supplier messed up and didnt have the normal Cove so they substitued the Bed moulding...which was considerably more expensive, but they honored the original price...part of me is happy because I got alot more for my money (the molding is Really nice quality), on the other hand I wonder if it will be a tad too fancy?

Whatcha guys think?

When you bring a lady friend home and pull into the garage she will see your fancy moulding in the garage and be impressed!

Well maybe....:D

That looks like it's a crown moulding than something that would fit in the corner between the wall & ceiling.

EDIT: After looking at a few pictures of different cove moulding, I can see why they would send that.

I would have marble counters and gold plated fixtures if I could afford it. Nothing wrong with a bit of fancy.

Aren't you a dandy??? LOL! Just kidding!

If you aren't happy with it, why not resell it and buy something you think is more shop-centric?

"Shop centric" would likely be trimmed with 1x4s. I say if you like it, run with it. WT Hey. I trimmed out the windows in the work area, complete with little sills and all. Looks nice.

A friend bought a new chandelier and I got his old one and hung it in my garage. It looked out of place but every body thought it was pretty cool to have a crystal chandelier in the shop..

As long as it saves you money I would be proud of it. If someone knocks you for saving money, just point them to the garage door. Now if you decided to spend extra money just for the look, that would be a different story. But in this case it sounds like the real incentive was $ savings.

Well now.....seeing how I just finished up one bedroom of my 2-story addition.....let me tell you....that little piece of crown molding starts to look really good after about the 4th pass with the mud.....

Inside corners are a b!tich.....especially when you have to have a ladder or something to stand on to reach it......

And in case you didn't get my drift....those inside corners are a REAL *****....about like my x-wife....(and I'm being nice).

The only downside I can see to them is if you plan to have cabinets go all the way to the ceiling....otherwise...go for it...

But if you want to make it a bit more 'manly'....maybe go with a simple 1/4 round....cheaper...

Frankly I'd rather see mudded corners. Once you do a molding it doesn't make much difference. I have to ask, why not just a piece of square stock?

Why I didn't go with a square stock? Cost..by the time I bought some boards (possibly 5/4) ripped them all down and installed them, I bet the cost would have been the same, possibly more if you count time...what I got are 16' Fingerjointed pieces, Pre-Primed.

I planned on trimming out the windows with little sills as well, but instead of using normal casing, just using some 1/2" MDF to be a little more "shoppy" Maybe I'll use normal casing...I do have a bunch of leftover from our Basement finishing.

Bingo, PITA for sure...I hung all the rock myself...when I cut the sheets I just em a hair short so they would go up nicely.. It also didn't help I installed a bunch of wall prior to doing the ceiling...so I left a larger then normal gap there too so I could get the ceiling sheets in. DIDNT even think about the PITA mudding it. Looking at it now I needed to use a reinforced tape like Straitflex in the inside corners instead of plain paper...@ 60 bucks a roll, that's not cheap. I paid less then 80 for all 175' of the Moulding...

Thanks for the input guys, I'll be banging this stuff up as soon as I can!
