I am building a speaker mount that i can flip out to face out of my garage. I am trying to avoid having my door close while my speakers are protruding beyond the door and thought that if i put some sort of switch that would only complete the circuit if the speakers were pushed back into the garage, that i would be able to meet my goals. Is this doable with the weird nature of the optical sensors?

As easy or basic as putting chippie button/swing arm switch in-series with sensors that the flip up shelf presses against.

That's what i was hoping to hear. Does it even matter which wire i put that on as long as i am completing the circuit?

You could mount a second set of safety beam sensors (like what came with your door opener) at the level of the speakers. When they're swung out, they break the beam, door won't close.

Or just hang something from the bracket that swings in front of the regular beam sensors when the speaker is flipped out.

Id just wire a N.O. micro switch in series with the optical sensor. Mount switch to wall, and make sure the swinging bracket has something protruding to contact the switch and close it
