Hello all. I have been a member here for I think close to a year, reading and getting alot of very helpful information. I wanted my 1st post to be good, so here it goes!! My fiancee and I bought our 1st house last August and its been one year since we made dettlement. In the process of the past year, I've gained alot of valuable information for home improvement ideas from everyone on here. For that, I want to thank everyone.

Now onto the garage. When we moved in, the home in question is a 3 story townhouse. Built 7 years ago, but the kicker, the owner NEVER moved in. He never lived in it. Just bought it for an investment (or so he thought :rocker:). His son worked for the builder, and he bought one unit in the development, so he told his dad to do the same.

Well, we all know what happened in 2008? The industry tanked, and his house sat. And sat. And sat! It wasn't really listed for sale with a sign. Just a few websites had it. We saw it, and fell in love with it. 3 bdrm, 3.5 bath, giant kitchen, huge deck, hardwood and upgraded carpet. No basement, but the 1st floor has a nice cozy tv room with a full bath around the corner. Its NICE!! And our best thing, NEVER lived in. So we basically got a "new" house for a used price.
The best thing for both of us ontop of everything? A two-car garage!! Its about 355 sq-ft. The walls needed mud and paint, and the concrete floor was decently clean. My 1st thought was epoxy. But after seeing what I needed to do, and the HOA rules, acid etch wouldn't fly, and I didn't want to grind it as the dust is bad. So then I thought of Racedeck.

I called Jennifer (super helpful) and asked for samples. They came in a few days, showed my fiancee. She liked the Blue diamond plate color and the Graphite color. AWESOME!! Next was my design. This slowed the process down. I couldn't get a good design. My garage door isn't centered to the garage itself. One side is wider than the other in comparison to the garage door tracks. So after a dozen ideals, I scrapped it for something "unique" as you'll see below.
Once the design was set, I ordered it on Aug 2nd. Jennifer made sure it would go out that day, so I would get it shipped to my work (easier for me) before I go on vacation. Once I got it home, we wanted to get the walls done. So we mudded and painted the walls. Once that was done, floor was next.

The install was so easy and it went together in a "snap". It took us about 5 hours to install with cutting. Wonderful, fun install. Now with the design. I wanted something that goes with my love of a certain racing livery. And the said livery is connected to my favorite actor (I'm a HUGE fan). I'm not going to give it away yet, what the design is from, but I live it ALOT!! The floor is so nice to walk on, its quiet (no landscape matting under it), and it just transforms the garage completely!! I'm more than happy, and its so worth the $$$ I paid.
I want to thank Jorgen for offering his generous discount to us members. It swayed me this direction and I''m so glad I did it. Thanks for checking out my floor everyone.

Oh, I almost forgot. The garage is NOT for daily drivers. The spaces are saved for a 1969 Camaro (her's) and my 2006 Modified Mustang GT. Our weekend "toys".

Very nice! I noticed the tile cutter in the one picture. Did you rent that or did you buy it? If so, from where?

Hey bud, thanks for posting. I rented it from Home Depot. Cost was $35 for 24 hours. It really did a nice job on the cutting for the back wall and one side wall. I just had to use a jigsaw for 3 tiles as my garage has a 45° angle on the right wall (it's where the HVAC vent is for the back door hall). I'm so glad I used the cutter. Speeds up the install a lot.

I have one question. Are the joints water, oil, gas, beer tight? As in water from a dripping car, spilled liquids ect. are they going to seep through? This is a main question I have about these snap together floors in a working garage and I have not seen a definitive answer.

I'm not an expert but my understanding is that there will be some seepage of liquids with RD, however, the underside of the tile is channeled to allow it to run out of the garage (assuming it is sloped) or to eventually evaporate depending on the amount of spillage. The "freeflow" tiles are designed to allow liquid to pass through.

To the OP: The floor looks great! Really nice color combination. Congrats!

which is why i'd never be able to bring myself to get something like racedeck even with as nice as it looks. i know i'd end up with a slew of different oils and fluids beneath the floor with a permeating smell coming up.

OP. looks as good as it gets there, nice big clean garage, ready for some projects.

Big problem here......WHERE are the pictures of the 69 Camaro?

That is violation of man rule # 3. A member must post pictures of said old car as soon as possible.

BTW...nice job.....and I 'used' to have a 67 RS conv.....I would give my left nut to have that car now....

Thanks. Does that kind of cutter only allow you to make one cut or can you cut in a corner or trim an edge piece as I have a few pillars I will need to work around? Or is that where the jigsaw comes in?

Also, let's see some pics with the cool cars loaded in!

That is sweet! Now lets see the cars. I wish I could do my garage to match my Shelby. I just can't justify the cost considering I'll be moving in a year or two

Don't want to jack the thread but thanks! I have MANY more bikes new and old.

And thanks to all that answered my question about the "tightness" of the joints and spillage. It was what I thought so Race Deck (or similar) is not an option for me.

To the OP, Nice garage and nice flooring install. Enjoy it and post more pics please!

Hey bud, thanks for the reply. The cars are not "home" yet. They are at different locations until the garage was ready to get them home. We hope to have both cars there within the next few weeks. Once We do, I'll take more pics for sure. Her Camaro is awesome. Azure Turquoise, which is the original color (repainted years ago), was only on like 2% of builds that year. Its a rare color.

really love the orange

Love the pattern you chose...it's different from your normal checkerboard!

Thanks guys. The stripes just hit me one night. My love for anything Steve McQueen, and Gulf Racing Livery. Its the stripes from his jacket he wore in LeMans (and anything Gulf). It really pops when you see it. It was my fianee's idea to make them wider. I only had them 1 tile wide, then she changed them to 2 tiles wide. MUCH BETTER looking with 2 tiles wide.

The cutter I used was about 15" wide and it had a spring on each end, making it impossible to put the tile in on a 45degree angle. I could cut a small angle at the edge, but mostly used it only for straight cuts. I used a handheld jigsaw for the 3 corner pieces and it worked like a charm.

Oh, and the cars will be photographed on their new floor soon.
