Hey whatsup guys, Happy Thanksgiving

Heres what I'm doing, I am rebuilding a 2000 mustang engine, and I noticed that there is alot of debris in my holes, probably from the machine work I got done, sand blasting or whatever "just from sitting"

Anyways I was looking in to a metric kit but Im not trying to spend a arm and a leg for one, I was wondering if HF Tap and die sets are any good?

The sets seem to be a little steep

heres the one I was looking at

Let me know if theres another good company that sells these for less

Use thread chasers on an engine, taps, especially cheap ones can damage existing threads, making them weak links, buy a thread chasing kit, available from Sears or any tool truck. Use oil when you chase them.

Its amazing how well the chasers clean the threads. A bit time consuming, but I chase every thread before assembly. I"ve got the Sears 48 pc set, made by Kastar, same as Snapon.

You need thread chasers

I have the Snap-on set of thread chasers and have been very happy with them.

Edit I now know that they are rebadged and the exact same as Craftsman ones.

+3, that Sears rethreading set is great, I've had it for years and gotten losts of use from it.

I had a HF tap and die set I bought back when I was in high school and didn't have much money. The set sucked big time! The taps were very soft and twisted!:wtf: I know I heard that HFs quality is improving but the tap and die sets I still wouldn't trust with my previous experience from them.

When the HF set failed I ran to the hardware store and bought some Hansen taps to finish the job and they worked well.
