Well its been something we planned to do for a while now and this last weekend we actually started to build it! Its gonna be bigger then I planned on mostly in height! Can't wait for it to be done. We are using a lot of materials we had laying around and the roof will be metal siding we had stored away. So far only $160 into it... if you don't count what we used that we had on hand.

The flooring will just be pallets...

I built one almost exactly like that with a pallet floor about 25 years ago. It was 12'x16' and open on one side.

I left the bottom 18" open all around and it really helped w/ airflow which seasoned the wood better.

There is a garage in it's place now.

Looks good and it should work great.

What's the measurements ?

10 x 16 10 ft tall! on the tallest side.

Haven't gotten to finish it yet but if its not raining this weekend I hope to get the roof on!

Then lots of chopping and splitting wood! :rocker:

A little quick math tells me that's over 10 cords, better sharpen that chain.

So here is the Wood Shed with roof and a wall and even some firewood. Man it takes a lot longer to chop wood then I imagined it would! Looking good though I do think!

Looks great! I need to build one myself, a project for next summer. I plan to incorporate an outhouse into it as well. I have a few design ideas....

I like cutting wood, chopping can get a bit arduous though, I picked up a wood spliter this year as a result. Makes life allot easier!

Are you planning to split the sides so you have this years, and next years side? I find that my wood shed is to small and that when cutting wood in the spring I have to pile it outside and move it into the woodshed after done with the burning season.

Right now I have a lot of OLD OLD cedar shingles that where left outside from ~13 years ago the ones that are not rotten are getting stacked up for kindling on one side. Then we are going to stack as much wood as we can fit in there with the space remaining.

Since its the first year we will be heating the shop with wood I have no idea how much we will go through. I think if we stack the wood ~7' up (whatever is easy to grab) we will have enough for the winter if we are lucky a little longer (hoping for 2 years). We don't have really harsh winters here like some places.

This is basically identical to what I wanna build in the spring. Right off the front of my new to me wood boiler.. I was considsring doing a concrete pad under both the burner and shed.. more I think about it that wouldn't be very good with mold issues.. and I don't split my wood.. straight in the boiler..

Looking at your last picture above I see that you are cross stacking the ends of the ricks. If you add a vertical 2x at the end of each rick you can eliminate the cross stacking and possible blow out of the end. In my old shed I just wedged the vertical 2x in when starting the rick as I had to load from the end.

Also.. where's your snow.. that's ****...

I wish we had snow! Instead its just Frozen. I got Ice crystals coming out of the ground! The photo is of last years Ice crystals/stalagmites coming from the ground the ones this years are longer and no snow. Been like that for well over a week now!

We don't get much snow here (seattle type weather)

I built a small one over at my place in France a few years back. Basically a mini pole building with vertical planked wooden sides and a corrugated cement roof with clay roman tiles laid on top to make it pretty. The window was an old one salvaged from the house and reused. It also has a solar light and also a solar panel to charge my ride-on mower battery when we are away.

There is nothing wrong with a concrete floor in a woodshed. It is important to have the wood elevated up on pallets or similar to allow air flow to aid with drying and seasoning.

The concrete floor will be fine just stack the wood off the floor. Buy a few PT landscape timbers when they go sale cheap. They work great to stack wood on.

Neighbor extended the back roof on the garage for a woodshed. Did a nice job. My cats love it, wood piles are mouse factories. One of my cats will go over and grab a mouse, kill it, bring it to the back door, and as quick as I get rid of it, will bring another one.

Yeah. that would be easy enough, also then when I get through a row I can just stand them up in the corner.. or outside I guess.

I plan to set the poles, pour the pad, then install the purlins and set the metal up about 4" above the pad height (to allow air to move under it)..

Again though.. with my outdoor boiler I really have no need to ever dry my wood.. or split it.. I love this thing. (It was 10* last night.. and the HARN was still 70 in the garage and 73 in the living area this morning, still some wood left over too!!)

Interesting roof, info?

My shed (still not finished) which I will add a wood shed to. On the back.
Mostly recycled materials.

Kels, nice set up:thumbup:

When you say "have no need to ever dry" do you mean that you are burning green wood?

lg

Some green yes.. the boiler I own has a blower on the front.. most anything will burn if it's added to a lava pit of coals this thing holds inside it. ;)

Even though it has a blower, I still wouldn't want to burn a bunch of green wood.

If you put something up, I'd guess that you could get some "seconds" from Country Metals to match your HARN colors. Those would be fine for something like that.

Nice job. I have a small wood shed. Once I empty the contents into the stove this winter I'll need to replace the floor. I have a flow of wood. This year's purchase is stacked and will go into wood shed for burning next winter. Gives me seasoning time.

This is what it looks like today. Once my contractor comes to remove snow I'll shovel out around it and chop another weekend's worth to bring in. This process gets me off the GJ and into fresh air.

Interesting roof, info?

It's actually sheet metal, and it was a Craigslist find. Here's an installation guide linky: http://www.bestbuymetals.com/pdf/sapphire-installation-guide.pdf

Originally I was spacing 1x4 furring strips on 12" centers, but the 30# paper was sagging too much for my liking, so I added 1x2 strips in between. Good thing my time is worth $1.33 per hour on this job! :lol_hitti Was it the roofing you were curious about or the roof layout? Let me know if there is anything else you're curious about. I've got a bunch of it left over, so it may get used for some other small buildings or sold on CL again.

The design looks a bit like a parasail ........ hope it doesn't react to the wind like one.

maybe.. most everything they do there is custom made to length.. i'm not sure if they just do like 40' sheets and cut it down or just they just have a painted roll of steel that's like 1,000' and they just cut to length and then stamp it.. ?? i'll have to call and ask.. i do have one piece that i cut a "F#$k up" in under my electric meter that i need to cover up too.. that's one thing that ***** about the spray foam.. you can't just replace pannels.. you've gotta pull all the screws out and lay over and re-screw.. :eyecrazy: thank god it's only a 4' piece of wainscoating

Looks good and it looks just about like mine! This one's been standing for about 10 years. Holds about six cords. I'm gonna steal that solar light idea that someone else posted.
