Hi all...
I need to replace the 0-1/2" no name chuck on my DP200 Delta Press
AND the Delta has a NON REMOVABLE tailstock with a 2MT taper that the chuck attaches to..

Many ebay chucks have a tailstock that has a JT (Jacobs taper) at the chuck end or a threaded end at the chuck.

I am trying to find a high quality chuck that has a 2MT taper AT THE CHUCK END
Can anyone direct me to one?

thanks very much!

No problem!

You just buy a 'chuck arbor' which had the thread or taper to fit the chuck you want at one end, and a No.2 morse taper at the other!

In fact, if you buy a new chuck you will probably be asked I you want an arbor with it! No. 2 Morse is the most common! If not, you can pick one up from MSC for probably $10

Are you looking for a chuck to fit the taper in the first picture? If so that is not an mt-2. Mt-2 is much longer. Measure the big and small dia of the taper and the length of the tapered area. Those three numbers are needed to determine what the taper is.

once you have the numbers go here http://victornet.com/reference/Morse_Jacobs.html or one of the many other sites that have machine taper specifications.

Hi Larry..thank you for the quick reply and your generous offer of advice!

I have attached a pic with the dimensions of the taper on the tailstock... and after visiting

http://victornet.com/reference/Morse_Jacobs.html

the measurements are closest to a
Jacobs taper #33

33 .62401 .56051 1.00000

Dave, the tailstock isn't removable ..so I need the replacement chuck to fit the existing taper...

so if I'm reading this correctly I need a replacement 1/2" chuck with a JT33 taper..
yes? if so Yippppppeeeee!

Garage journal has helped me several times before..you guys rock..Larry! thank you again!

From the chart it looks like a Jacobs 33 taper.

I'd suggest Albrecht keyless or if you want a traditional keyed chuck look for as Jacobs Ball Bearing super chuck like a 14N.

There are lots of chucks on Ebay. Just make sure the jaws are good.

Walt, drop the Quill down and see if there is a machined slot in the quill.

If there is then rotate the spindle to see if there is another slot in the spindle. if there is, then you should be able to see the top of the arbor; because I can't recall ever seeing one that was not removable on a decent quality press.

Assuming the arbor is removable, all you need is a wedge to pop it out.

Sorry, didn't read it correctly!

Yes, chucks come with a variety of tapers!

It doesn't look like a 2 morse to me either! Jacobs 33 is much more plausible, and relatively common!

You can get a good variety of chucks with that fitment!

Apart from Jacobs, which are good conventional chucks, you could get an Albrecht keyless (nice, but costly) or a Rohm! I'm using Rohm's on most of my machines now. Really nice and well priced! In th U.K. MSC often have them on offer!

Correct your machine has a male JT33 taper on the spindle, therefore you need a female JT33 taper chuck to fit correctly. Why do you want to replace the chuck in the first place? Did it come off in use or something? If so there may be damage to the male portion of the taper (spindle on the drill press).

Agree with Dave above. The Rohm chucks are hard to beat for the $. Enco usually has a sale on them. 0-1/2" JT33 chucks are like the standard for home shop size drill presses.

I picked up a Rohm 1/2" chuck with a jt-33 taper for less than $25 new on ebay last month. It seems well made and works well.

Hi Zk... I bought the press very used, then used it a bunch more, changing twist drills quite often... now the chuck key holes are worn oblong so that the chuck key (even a new one) doesn't allow me to cinch the twist drills tightly without slipping a tooth...

I just saw a keyless Jacobs and Albrecht chuck on ebay... I'd like to get a deal like Mandres..so I'll be looking and checking cdco tools as well. thanks rededx...now that I know what I'm looking for ...

have a great one
