Nine4 - will do. I've got a few extra lazy S Pros and some regular Protos. We'll get together and compare notes. I would have had a for trade list up by now but things, well you know how it goes. But the weekend is all mine.
1. Finish trade list.
2. Scan my 1973 Proto catalog to a pdf file.

Great stuff everyone, so much suckage going on recently   Happy and safe garage-sailing on the holiday weekend.

Not a lot of sales listed so far here, it may be a bum weekend for me...

I'm not so much worried about the "S", as I am them being marked "Professional" on the other side. How much for a (digital?) copy of that 73 catalog? :D

You are correct, guy came out swinging!!

My wife asks me why I am always weeping when I read GJ. This thread is one such reason.

Great finds guys....that Beach suckage is significant.

Think I found a few things worth posting from an estate sale in Spring, Texas:
- Plomb Tool Box Model 9989 (based on the tool catalog posted here) Paid $15
- Starrett Caliper (flawless including the wood case) $15
- 13 Piece Craftsman Hole Saw Kit No 25763 (it's complete) $8
- 3 lb Vaughn hammer $4

The box had some crusty junk inside, including a Plomb Keychain Screwdriver stamped Reno Motor Supply on back. I'll clean-up the box and post it on the The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal! thread.

SNIP

I have the same feeling. Only three on my list for today, and none are very inspiring ads... :dunno: Been a bit slow lately... The good: spending less $$; the bad: well, that's obvious!

:+1: Went to 3 sales this morning, spread out all over the county. It was rainy.

1st advert said "Huge Huge Huge Yard Sale". It was 4 tables full of Granny's knicknacks.

2nd one said "TOOLS !". I was the first to show up. They had 5 rakes, a shovel, and 3 gas cans mixed in with a few boxes of household junk.

3rd - drove all over the place chasing limp, wet signs. When I finally found it, nothing. No one was home. Not even a car in the driveway.

I didn't even bother to drive up to the Sat. fleamarket. I just went home in defeat.

That's a HUGE You **** on the Proto box, Zip94!!

Hope you had better luck, Outlaw, I had to make the best of a bad day here.

$4 from one sale, like the 4th stop...
pic047.jpg

$2 each on the tool boxes full of **** from another sale, 20 minutes across town....
pic049.jpg

pic048.jpg

pic050.jpg

Then back to the first advertised sale that was supposed to start at 7am, they were just setting up at 9:50 and asked if I could come back later when they had the tools brought out....I left a business card...

Hit 3 pawn shops on the way home, first one I had a Craftsman speeder, pair of channel locks, two proto wrenches and a snap on socket, guy said $40. I laughed loudly in his face as I walked out the door..

Second pawn shop I found a couple Proto fillers for $4ea, I was hoping for a BOGO but it was a nogo.
pic051.jpg

Third pawn shop I scored my first Channel Lock GL-12s, some Channel Lock 337's in better condition than my old pair, two pr of Petersen vise grips and a couple Craftsman filler wrenches, all for $10.

In East hampton CT on rte 151 at a church near rte 66 there are 3 nice bin/shelving units for sale 30 bucks each.
I have no room for them but they look like a great deal for anyone in the area. One even has 3 toolbox drawrers that lock and the key is included.

I had been to several yard and estate sales today with only about $8 spent on just OK stuff. I didn't even post those items. I was done for the day so I thought when I wondered by a yard sale with tools. No prices on anything and when I started bundling stuff I was getting great prices. I bought some stuff that I have no need for but the price was right. I got everything in these photos from the same yard sale for $65. He said that he inherited a bunch of stuff that was filling up his basement. He said it was someone who worked for the phone company.

I got an Oster pipe threader (about 43" long), a Prentiss pipe vise (I believe it says NO B), A Harris TS44 Deluxe phone tool, A Bell telephone rotary phone tool, a NOS Fuller Pipe vise (sans pipe), a Klein tool bag, several C clamps (Cincinnati, Stanley, Sargent, Columbian), chisels and sets, two Craftsman wood clamps, a pair of unknown pliers, a couple of hammer or sledge heads, drill bits with case, couple of taps, couple of screwdrivers, two pipe cutters, some grease pencils and 31 tool handles. Some are Stanley tools, most are N.E. Handles out of CT. The largest is 31 inches long, the smallest is the one file handle. Many are new. I am stoked about this find. He said that he has to dig through more stuff and will put some out tomorrow. Guess I have at least one destination for tomorrow.

Sweet stuff all.

I like that 36" speeder, would be good for stuff on the ceiling. Great find
supperfly, that box and the deal you got is just amazing.
Nine, O come on, for $4 that looks like some nice "****". If those are craftsman slip joints, they are really nice pliers IMHO. Better than a sac' o flaming $hit for $3!
Mudman great stuff! Nice find on those hammer handles. Makes me wonder what the PO did with all them.
Think I found a few things worth posting from an estate sale in Spring, Texas:
- Plomb Tool Box Model 9989 (based on the tool catalog posted Paid $15
zip, That is super cool. Looks like it would make a good portable box or the like. The price was definitely right.
Amazing scores as usual Outlaw. Great find on the grinder for ~$10!!!!

I had the morning off. Had to run some errands on the opposite side of town today, so I figured I would get up early and try to map out a few sales. The sales seemed to be a bit sporadic today, no real bunches. One here, one over there. 5 garage sales, 2 thrift shops, one CL stop and on my way home, a swing past Lowes (nada spent) and another thrift shop.

Nothing real exciting, but I picked up the following for $5, didn't spend much, so I was happy.

-"K6" made in USA pliers :dunno:
-Lectrolite 218 pliers, super tight
-Mac impact 3/8 to 1/4 extension reducer :dunno: thought it would come in handy
-Sk 1/4 swivel
-Hazet 17/19mm 12 pt wrench
-2 Cman screwdrivers
-10" cman V 3/8 extension
-LARGE brace bit, great condition after I cleaned off the rust.
-A VERY rusty DOE made in USA wrench, destined to become a cabinet door handle (cheaper than store bought).

Hope y'all did better than I did. Sitting here waiting out the rain storm.

I ran my sale again this week and did a lot better than last week. More people and they were willing to spend some money. Funny thing is it didn't put a dent in what I was selling. Had two dads stop with their son's who were starting vocational automotive classes this fall. Cha-ching!
One of the regulars I see at sales each week told me about a sale not far from me were the children of a deceased retired tool truck salesman were selling off his old inventory. Snap On and Mac wrenches for a buck a piece, and I'm sitting in my garage!

Not a garage sale but I saw a block grinder come up on CL last night for $50 obo with work bench. There was no picture, only one from the web with the same model number. I emailed them with an offer of $20-25 and got a call this evening. After speaking with the guy, he mentioned he was hurting right now and just needed some cash for groceries and for me to come by and make an offer. When I got there, it was a young guy(25ish), he said his mother had just passed away and he had no job, just wanted some grocery money to get by. I offered him $40(all I brought with) and told him to keep the bench and try to sell it for additional cash. He thanked me and told me to grab some tools too, since I had gave him more than my original offer. I picked out a Walden socket box(empty), a Craftsman and Williams 8" adjustable and we shook hands. I wish I could have helped him more, but in reality, I can't even help myself... :(

Nothing special, I got a really nice scissor lift for the pop up camper, sears model that's made in USA and still in the box. No sign of rust on it!

Then some 1" c Clamps and 2" C clamps and a storage bin box with auto lights bulbs, ignition points and some bolts.

Nothing really to brag about.

Cool mason jar and grinder, Outlaw!!

Good score pettybird, almost $0.50 per item

WNYflyer, lots of suckage there!!

zk, I hoped they were Craftsman, after the wire wheel treatment, I can't find a mark anywhere...:dunno: The pry bar is Craftsman, socket is Williams and there were Williams and Armstrong sockets in the other box so it wasn't total bust... You did well for $5

Chopper, that's when you need an assistant, so you can say "I'll be riiiiiiiight back"

Labor Day weekend always seems like a harder one for the sales. You have to work harder to find sales to go to... This year I only had a couple of promising stops. Things didn't go as planned:
Stop 1. A perpetual garage/antique sale. I last plundered this one about 2 years ago and hadn't seen it advertised since. In fact, I wouldn't have known about it if I hadn't driven by as they were opening this morning. (lots of old volt- and ammeters). First, for $3.50 I got the following, and an old Hansen staple gun with NOS staples (not shown):

8" G/S adjustable wrench and Snap-On Ferret sliding T-handle (that has seen better days).
Same place, got the following for $15:

Peck, Stowe, and Wilcox Mechanic's Handy List for Outlaw (Sadly, it's not complete), an Eiffel Plierench manual (handy, since I picked up an Eiffel Plierench last weekend), and my favorite score of the day: a 1961 copy of Hardware Age. It's full of period tool and hardware ads, which will come in handy for a project I'm working on. I'm already kind of wishing I'd bought at least one more while I was there.

I actually heard about stop 2 on the radio at stop 1, during a "call in and talk about the stuff you have for sale" segment of a show... As soon as I arrived, I recognized the stuff as being from a swap meet seller. I dug through a couple of bins and got the following for $5:

Vaco wiring tool, Action combo wrench, Crescent 6" adjustable, Fleet 8" adjustable, and a Snap-On 2-in-1 screwdriver (the handle is in rough shape, but the blade is nice).

The last stop was the one I was most excited about: an estate sale with lots of tools (including machinist tools). Second day of the sale, but I had hoped that with the holiday weekend and the relatively remote location there would be lots left. After driving for too long, here's what I got. Spent $2.50:

Craftsman Vise-Grips, no COO, manufacturer code of "I" inside a circle.

Oh well. I plan at arriving at the flea market tomorrow morning at Oh-dark-thirty. I hope it's as good to me as it's been the last couple times,
