It's unconfirmed, but the consensus on this site was that a 1974 "All American" topbox I have was made by Waterloo.

Pff, there is a long list.

Craftsman
Waterloo (big suprise)
Proto
Husky
Kobalt (I think)
Mac/Matco (Specific ones, not all)
Cornwell (Specific ones, not all)
SK
Alot of one off, promotional and store brands.

I'm sure a bunch more that I have never even heard of. They have some pretty specific features to them.

I've heard that Mastercraft boxes used to be Waterloo, how would one go about figuring out if their box is a Waterloo?

I have a Western Auto box from the early eighties with a warranty card address for Waterloo, IA., (Waterloo's original location) so Western Auto seems to be a likely candidate for inclusion.

Waterloo doesn't make boxes in the US anymore?

Honestly I haven't followed where they went after they uprooted from here and put hundreds out of work to send their work to mexico. Don't know and don't care, they sheeot on the people that made them what they were and gave them their top shelf reputation so they could farm the work out to cut rate labor.

Maybe they have shops back in the US again, but still don't care until they bring ALL of them back.

- Partial Background -

Waterloo Industries was founded in the 1920s as the Waterloo Valve Spring Compressor Co. by Croatian immigrant Nicholas Sulentic and operated by his six sons through the early '90s.

Waterloo Industries was acquired by American Brands Inc. in 1989 as an operating company within the corporation’s family of hardware and home improvement products.

In 1997, American Brands changed its name to Fortune Brands, Inc.

WATERLOO -- In 1995-97 Waterloo Industries phased out and closed its 70-year-old Waterloo plant and moved that work to a new factory in Muskogee, Okla. The Muskogee plant is now also closing.

Company officials told Muskogee employees last week that their facility, which opened in 1996, will close by the end of 2004, displacing 200 employees.

That work is now being moved to previously existing company plants in Pocahontas, Ark. and Sedalia, Mo., Carlstone said.

WATERLOO - Waterloo Industries Inc. will close its plant in Pocahontas, Ark., late next year.

Officials in Pocahontas received a letter last week informing them of the pending closure. The letter stated the company's intention to gradually phase down the operations and close the facility by the third quarter of 2007.

When interviewed later, Carlstone said some of the work was sent to Waterloo Industries' two remaining North American plants in Sedalia, Mo., and Nogales, Mexico. Some product lines were discontinued.

I've got mastercraft 40" roller and chest that are made by Waterloo. Check the top right drawers if it is a Waterloo you should find a sticker with a part # on it.

I had a 8 drawer Husky 52" top cab that was made by Waterloo. It had Husky name/badging, but the owners manual stated on the bottom "Waterloo Industries" and an address for warranty concerns. I also have 2 husky 6 drawer top cabs made by them. Although there's no actual Waterloo stickers, the part# is a Waterloo # with HD added. I bought them about 18 months ago. Says "Assembled in U.S.A." on the sticker.

I believe you can add my Dayton Electric Company, Chicago USA box to the list.

I bought it new back sometime in the early 1980's. Painted the handles black some years ago because the chrome plating was flaking off at the time.

Yes, they do exist. I attached a couple of "as found" pics. I'm in the midst of a light restoration - repair and deburr drawer slides, clean and detail, along with a buff and wax. I will post more pics when it's done (probably in the vintage tool box thread).

They actually moved their main plant to Sedalia, MO. Their smaller portable storage lines were moved to Mexico. But have since been brought back to Sedalia just prior to the SBD acquisition.

As for this question OP- I will ask when I get the tour setup so the OP has an answer. lol I sent off the email this morning.

We've been having floods and tornado's the past 2 weeks.. we can't catch a break.. Like right now, I would have to drive 280 miles 1 way to get to Sedalia as the only way to cross is closer to Kansas City and I am in NE Missouri. Standard way is 320 miles both ways.

Thats the river in the town I live in. lol
