Clausing Drill Press/Nice Craigs Find

bought a nice clausing drill press tonight this thing is in great shape has a 20in swing a jacobs super ball bearing #18 3/4 chuck its 3 phase and has a tec variable speed control on it and this thing is smooth also has a high low switch
now i need to put a reverse switch on it can't believe i got this for $300 its a model 2226

this drill is a little different then the model with the torque convertor like a snowmobile this is a five step pulley system, i have to bring it home this week then i will post more pics

Very nice machine Great price IMHO I think clausing makes some of the best medium size drill presses out there. Looks like that table is hole free, you better keep it that way.

Personally I would prefer the step pulley machine over the CVT machine. Yea the CVT is nice for quick speed changes. BUT if and when you need parts. $$$$$$ ouch, even a belt $$$$. Step pulleys, much simpler

Question, why do you want to be able to reverse the spindle? Do you plan on trying to power tap with it?

Nice find. It looks like it has a VFD on it. If so, you will be able to change spindle direction with the VFD.

i need to get a manual for it to how to reverse it i was playing around a little with at the guys house you can bring this thing to a crawl with the VFD this is a very nice machine and a lot quieter then the ones you can change the speeds with the front dial

well i got it home tonight what a beast and a chore getting it on my truck but i got it home in one piece needs some cleaning but this thing is in pretty darn good shape

yes it is a nice machine i have three 3/4 jacobs chucks all made in the USA Jacobs chucks are all china made now

What is your opinion on the older Supreme (Chicago, IL) brand chucks? Seems I have far more of those than Jacobs. All used to me of course.

I would agree with you on that.
Have some of the later USA made (Mississippi IIRC) ones and they don't seem to be as good as the Hartford ones.
Have a new China unit in the box, that I haven't used yet, can just imagine how that's going to work out.
Never used an Albrecht, heard they are nice, but costly.
