Jusridin,
Great finds! You definitely **** on that Cman bottom chest. Does the blue (or blue-gray?) paint look original on the top box? I'm sure someone will chime in with a suggestion on the maker. For some reason I'm thinking Herbrand and OTC may have sold boxes in a color like that, but I have no way to back that up...
The dark gray is the original color, the outside is all that has paint on it. The slides are different than my her brand box that I have.

I am thinkin its Kennedy...

That is what I initially thought. And those drawer slides help to support that thought. I feel like I have seen those drawer pulls before. I just can't remember where...:headscrat O this is going to bug me till I remember. I don't THINK it is a herbrand chest. I really want to say/agree kennedy, but I just can't say with certainty.

Either which way, a drop front box, not rusted out for $15. Yep, you ****.

Did you see my reply in the other thread about the snap on setup you sold?

I can verify those are Kennedy's as I have 2 of the 8 drawer rollers (all drawers, no "garage" same split covers...), one inf red and one std brown. I'm pretty sure those are 50's, probably late, and maybe into the 60's.

I haven't been on as much as usual the past couple of days, big honey do project has me sucked up,

there is outlaw, I got through the first two layers of paint and found the brown Kennedy original paint. cant say it is standard brown, its a light brown, almost a gray hammered finish. I really hate having to repaint a vintage box but I am gonna have to do this one. but its a keeper and I am thinkin it will go on top of my Kennedy stack that I will never be able to see in lol
It kinda blows me away outlaw has honey dos?

Well I got called off an inspection I was doing at a power plant today @ 12 o'clock for a breakdown at another customer...I had just gotten out of their gate and was called back and told "Never mind, their electricians gonna handle it!" so I figured it was noon so...I figure a run by a nearby Pawn shop was gonna be my lunch!
While there I found a near complete set of Cman metric nut drivers (missing the 7mm) and a baby pair of USA Irwin Vise-Grips for a 10 spot. no U suckage but I did snap a couple of photos of their socket offerings for you guys....

:scared::drool::drool::drool: WOW, I could spend hours upon hours just browsing there. How are their prices? I have never seen anything like that. Are they organized in any sort or just a free for all?

Well, I call 'em that. It's more for me than her; I ripped out a pocket I had put in to hide an accordion type room divider that never happened, (this is in a corner of our 6X14 walk in MBR closet) and am building in an old glass front stereo cabinet and enclosing the hole again. It will all be built in at that point...

I added a power outlet into the bottom of the cabinet, and the back will have full door access, but will still lock up tight. (Don't need sound traveling between the FR and the MBR, or vise versa...) I will also have some plastic conduit for routing speaker wires, into the FR.

So the AV **** is all mine, but she wants to paint that wall, hence it's a "honey do". But hey, if Mom ain't happy, nobody's happy... :pimpflash

Once I get the construction done, it's her and the kids. I've taught them all the proper way to paint, so I'm done.

Not just tools, I have only had to buy a sheet of rock (Only actually needed a 1/2 sheet...) and a bucket of mud so far for this project. I had everything else!

Okay.. No they are not organized at all, Prices aren't bad usually less than a buck a piece for sockets regardless...

No its not in Seffner...its in Auburndale, FL actually not far from the once famous Cypress Gardens ( now Leggo Land )... the name of the place is Traders Pawn and Storage. I think most of this has come from delinquent storage units over the years.

Hmmm, lets see what I can contribute here.
First up, a pile of tools, 15$ for ~14 tools, not bad. The box was free  :

I have no idea what this thing is, but it looked cool so it came home!

Next up we have some hauls from the local thrift shop. It's all tools, and benefits go towards giving Senior Citizens activities to do. It's mostly staffed by senior volunteers.
Set of SAE deep impact sockets & 15 + 13 mm metric ones. $5 total.

SAE nut driver set marked "Taiwan" (It was 3$ so... :dunno:)

Some metric nut drivers, wood handles, marked " Spintite" &" Stevens New York" $2 total

And finally, this old beat up metal Craftsman tool box. It's rough, but it functions and I'll clean it up.

Price paid for the box? Well it was 50% so I paid $1.25

The unknown tool is a Saw-Set. Back when handsaws were in primary use, the carpenter would sharpen his own saws. There would be one in every toolbox, or back at his bench at home next to his saw vise.

The saw-set was used to re-set the angle of the teeth on the saw to allow for a kerf, and to keep the saw from binding. There should be a dial, or some sort of adjustment on it (the front thumbscrew) to create a shallow or deeper angle. The tool would then be placed on the blade, centered on a tooth, and then squeezed to bend the tooth to the correct angle. All before the file was used to sharpen the teeth. The saw teeth would be alternated left/right to keep the sawdust from choking the teeth, and make a kerf wider than the width of the saw.

I used one once, just for the experience. I'd rather pay someone to sharpen and tune my saws after that.

A cool, but forgotten tool.

Forgot to post this the other day...

Went to a garage sale on Labor Day. Small place, not too much tools, but managed to save the following:

-Pair of Craftsman combo wrenches, 10mm and 12mm, to fill in holes in my lineup, $1 ea
-short 2 foot level made by "Mayes Brothers Tool Mfg., Port Austin MI". A couple of the glass guards for the levels are missing, but worth the $1 for it
-pair of new Armstrong tool rools, vinyl blue material. Not sure what originally came in them, any help IDing them is appreciated. 50 cents each

Don't you just love that feeling? You dig through your box of goodies and find just what you needed; saving yourself a trip to the hardware store and a few $'s. Exact reason why I save way too much stuff. Friends will laugh "Why are you saving this POS?" then when I dig around and pull out the switch, wire, bolt, misc fastener that they need that typically stops the laughing. I hate driving down to lowes or the like just to pick up one mission critical screw to get the project finished.

Sweet box. Yea, it may not be perfect, but for $1.25? :lol_hitti Great deal, and it came with the tray.

I plan on taking the wife and kids to Florida sometime in the next year for a vacation, one of the stops is the Disney franchises in the Orlando area. Since this is in the area, guess now I'll have to stop and shop for a little bit while the kids are on some rides! :) Hey, a dad can take some time off for shopping too!

Yep this thread sort of outlines my habit, only I need to update as I've added 4 18 drawer bin sets to the mix!

And for me it's not just the $$; the TIME it takes to horse around in the so-called hardware stores of today makes that an even bigger deal.

I picked this up from CL last night for $150 and sold it for $500 just now. Never even took it out of my truck. And that's how I pay for my tools and shop. :rocker:
