Alright!

Scored two from my local RS. Thanks Again!

Gave one to my wife for her B-Day, she'll use it as a hobby/jewelry vise.

Thanks to the OP for the heads up. Had to go to two stores but found one. It's a real nice item. I thought there would be a lot of plastic, but it's (cast) metal and should hold up really well for light duty stuff. Best of all it's made in the USA. Looks like a quality item and a steal for $20.

Man this place is trouble! Got mine tonight. The Aspen Hill store had two and I left one for the next guy. When I checked online tonight all 5 stores in my area had them in stock so come and get um! Great deal on a nice tool, thanks for posting OP :).

I bought one too last weekend and thought I'd issue a warning that the silver paint on these units is very delicate.

A fingernail is more than adequate to chip paint from the smooth finish. Not the least bit solvent resistant either. Plain old rubbing alcohol (isopropanol) will wipe the paint off, which I discovered when trying to remove the adhesive label from the base. (I removed the label because the ink was bleeding after contact with a drop of liquid, and used isopropanol [91%] to remove the sticky residue. A single wipe of the base will produce a noticeable tack but won't noticeably strip the paint.)

Probably not a big deal to most of you but I thought I'd mention it.

And I bet you're glad you didn't pay full price for it. At $20, I can live with the finish needing touchup- or not. It's a vise, not a Porsche.

And the finish on my Panavise from the mid 1980's also had this issue. It has never caused a problem.

I also picked one up today. Asked the girl "if they had any small vices" and she had no idea what I meant. I then said "for clamping small things in". She was still confused. I looked around the store and found them in 2 or 3 minutes. One left after I bought one.

What's the word on this guy? Well built or something to be passed on
I got it for the gimmicky light, which seems to be rather decent along with the magnification. The arms and cast base are not robust, but for the price, it was worthwhile for the lighted magnification. I don't think I'd trust the soldering iron holder because of the risk of tipping unless I bolted this thing down to a table or larger base for safety.

If you dont want to bolt it down, get a magnetic tray, and stick it to that. I have a helping hands one thats sits in my tool box untill I need it. When I do , I just slap it on a two, or four magnet tray = Instant soldering station, and solder wont stick to the tray.

Thanks OP. I picked up the last one in College Station, TX. I had a 301 before but it went missing in a move. I already have the attachment to hold circuit boards. (I build old school tube guitar amps.)

We happened to be shopping next door to RS so I picked one up. If anyone was unable to find one and needs one, I'm open to shipping.

I tried, no dice at my local store, I guess they are now on my "do not shop" list

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that, like most of us, prior to going into RS looking for this panavice deal, you hadn't set foot in one for a decade or so. Odds are that they won't feel the impact if your putting them in the penalty box.

Unless it is different where some of you guys are, I don't understand the hate here. In my local RS, the price on the shelf was $40. The sale that showed up when I had them check the price at the register was $20 on clearance. To me, that indicates that they will run out and not carry it anymore. Getting mad at them because they ran out makes no sense. I got three of them, 1 for me and 2 for work.
