Menards has $100 off on their 41" box combo set. Top & bottom for $688. I have two and for the money they are great if you can get past the green. LOL!!!

Who is the OEM for these boxes and is the finish a "crinkle paint", kinda like the machinist toolboxes? I would like to go to a Menards someday; living in the SouthWest, looks like Wyoming is the closest store to me! To quote an old saying "thats a fur piece"; I don't think I'll be in wyoming any time soon!

Yeah, I'm with you. In the northeast, closest Menard's is in Ohio. It would be nice if they were around here (Mass) - give Lowes and Home Cheapo a run for their money.

I think I've seen those same boxes at Tractor Supply Co. (TSC), same green color. I could be wrong on them being identical, it's been awhile since I've been to TSC.

You might check TSC if you don't have a Menards in your area. I haven't seen any Menards in the TX area.

Yup I'm pretty sure your right. They are the same boxes and power tools sold at both stores. The Menards name on these boxes is "MasterForce", Tractor Supply sells these boxes under the "MasterHand" name. They also make powertools which look pretty good for the money under the same name and color(green). I went looking at these boxes just last week and they look pretty good. I dont really care for the green, just because everything I got is red.

If only this was happening around next Christmas, then I would be in Rock Springs and be able to take the run to Casper and look at them.

Menards is a great store... Beats Blowes and Home Cheapo every time. The only store I like better (well, they're fairly complementary) is Fleet Farm, which is also a Midwest/Great Plains thing. Fleet Farm has more in terms of welding, outdoors, and car parts and equipment, but Menards is by far the best lumber yard and interior fix-up stuff around.

I have looked them over plenty of times (I like the green too). I think that they would be great boxes for a weekend warrior or a homeowner. Not a nice as my buddies Snap-On but nicer then several Craftsmans that I have looked at.

Very similar to the boxes at my TSC. Main difference is the TSC boxes (at least at my store) don't have the full width drawer on the bottom box or the tray. Wish I had the cash for one.

Oh and NO to the crinkle finish. It is a smooth coating (powder coat, I am guessing) like that of Craftsman.

Menard's is growing fast. It is just a matter of time before they are a national chain. They seem to have found a strategy that allows them to compete successfully with HD & Lowe's. The thing to know about Menard's is that when they put things on sale, they have the best prices on earth. However, their regular prices are higher than HD or Lowe's so if you need a lot of stuff, you could end up spending more. Still it is good to have another company to keep HD & Lowe's in check.

Menards does some things good such as with building materials(wwwaayyy more stuff than HD and Lowes and inside stuff for a house(doors, windows, hardware, etc.) However I think Home Depot and Lowes have alot better power tool selection and maybe appliances. Menards also has alot of cheap **** there too. I like Menards I used to work at one for two years. It was good to see them get Allen tools in because there hand tool selection sucked before. Fleet Farm is also one of my favorite stores, I'm a country boy, but there power tools are pretty pricey, good selection though.

A few facts about Menards

-They have been in buisiness longer than HD or Lowes, nearly 40 years
-They are the #1 home Improvement chain in the midwest
-The land and buildings are paid for before any stock arives to fill the shelves.
-They are the only retailer that can do a store set (go from empty gondola runs, no shelves or pegs, to fully stocked and ready to open ) in 2 1/2 weeks.
-All vendor bills for stock are paid for at the end of the month.
-They fly all their dept management and store management personell to the home office yearly for product and management training.
-They treat their own lumber
-They build all their own trusses
-Mastercraft Doors is a Menard Trademark (interior, exterior doors)
-Midwest Manufaturing is a Menard trademark (polebarns, roof trusses)
-The newest stores are the largest in the retail Home Improvement industry (nearly 240,000 sq ft under roof)
-Depending on the season they have in stock close to 500,000 skus
-They pay out well over 50 million (yea thats right) in profit sharing to their employees yearly. It goes up every year.
-The only time they close a store is if they build a new bigger and better replacement.
-They are still privatly owned by John Menard. The same John Menard of Team Menard IRL Racing League.

You forgot that they've got the catchiest jingle (worst) that gets stuck in your head.

I do like Menards. They tend not to carry as much name brand / higher end tools as the others, but I prefer them for supplies.

We keep hearing rumors of them opening a store here (nearest one is 15 miles away), but it hasn't happened yet. We lost Erb & 84 this year (more contractor oriented), so hopefully that will speed Menards up. We only have one lumber store (Carter) and the only places for tools are ACE & WalMart.

Wish they'd come back to IndyCar racing, but Paul's going the NASCAR route.
