Been perusing the forums for years. After a year of purchasing new property, it was just a matter of time and money that a building would be put up. Here begins my journey of building a 50x100 building. 25x50 will be the living quarters, and the remaining 75x50 will be the garage/shop area.

Here are a couple photos of the building site.

Are the photos too large? Still trying to get the hang of this. Had to switch from Flikr to Imageshack and also needed to reduce image sizes.

They're really big even on my monitor at 1920x1080.

Very cool. More & more of these type buildings being setup here on GJ.

So what kind of plans are you planning? 25x50 is about 1250 sq ft. Is this all on the ground floor? Will you have an upper level? Heated floors? Where are you located? Hope to see more pics of your place.

Those type of cooling towers are used at larger coal fired plants as well. Was one of the first things that caught my eye, sell into most of those coal burner plants for work.

What river / body of water are you near?

Nice looking plot of land.

Its to small you better double the size! Kidding of course (kind of) so what part of the world is this in? I see a nuke cooling tower in the background. We need more info!

Rob

Rob,
You are correct. That is a nuclear plant in the distance. I am up near your neck of the woods in North West Illinois near the Rock River.

SMG,

Welcome to garage journal! I drive through there everyday on my way to work in Rockford from about a hour west! You have a GREAT PROJECT that will be fun to watch. Keep posting and be prepared for all the "help" you will get here cause we love to spend your money

SMG, So whats the plan for this are you going to actually live here as well or just be able to? Do you have any design stuff you can share? We just need more info! If I can ever convince my wife that we can sell our current house you are doing exactly what I want to do. BIG *** garage/shop and a place to eat and sleep.

Beautiful farm setting . . . . Love it !!

Your footers and wall forms are highly evident that you're DOING IT RIGHT the first time !!

Curious if the big garage is taking out an old alfalfa field??

Budget for the building is actually more than the property itself, although it isn't just going to be a pole barn/building. Building size is planned to be 50x100x18 so that we can have two floors comfortably. I will be going with radiant floor heating throughout the entire building, and with the SIP panels it should be a tight envelope. Overall building progress has been put on hold as the one crew we are familiar with is booked with the rise in construction until December. All concrete work has been completed except for the floor which will be poured in early spring once everything else has been completed.

Until December...
