I have been told that they are medical, but I also have been told that they come out of old napa parts store, not sure, but I like them. they have roller bearings drawers, not as nice of drawers as my equipto cabinets, but still nice, now I need to find where to put two more feet of bench....lol...Rich

I made a find today. I walked into one of the pawn shops I go to and there was this broadhead axe head. I got it for $15.00 I think that is pretty good deal. It is flat on the bottom. It was forge welded by wrapping the piece of steel around a handle frame. It has M13 stamped into the blade and a name and 1882 and Rochchester, NY. I can not make out the maker of this axe but it is in very good condition. I have done a google search but came up empty with a manufacter

Anyone know who it might be?

Thanks, it looks like it's a model 500. It came with the manual and a VHS video. I have plenty of dull drill bits to experiment with.

Not a bad day I ended up buying a jet 14 inch band saw for $250 not a bad price but nothing to write home about. But I think I made up for it with these Snap On tools for 35 dollars

I went out and spent big today, 1 dollar total on everything I bought today. One thing was Swing Away can opener for 25 cents, gave to my co-worker. We go through can openers all the time at work.

Now on to the tool or at least guy stuff.


The drill bit box cost me 25 cents. It has a 7/32 screw driver bit in it. But mainly I bought it because it was a cool older tool related find. And hey 25 cents.

The belt buckle is a limited edition copy right 1979 by the Great American Buckle Company, Chicago. It even has a serial number.

I have a cylindrical "index" made of wood, (& holes drilled into the end and a round metal plate on the end to turn to select the desired size) with the remnants of a paper label from Cleveland, and a Morse Stand of wood (Again a paper label glued on) for the std 29 fractional sizes. The don't come up often, at least around here.

Here is the flaring tool I was talking about this morning. A.P. (or A.B.) BELLEVUE, BRONX, NYC. $5 at a thrift store. Just for fun, I bought the Craftsman Crown steel wool. $2 Look at the price on the box!

4" Utica adjustable and a fairly large craftsman punch for $1 today. Pics later.

Punch is marked 5/8 and is about 12" long. Definitely a keeper, I didn't have anything that big in my toolbox.

$5 haul from today. Left is a bunch of Taiwan, top four deep are Proto, swivels are SK. On the bottom row, the impact is Apex, next two are Cornwell, then four Craftsman, and lastly a Snap-On bit socket.

Hit an auction this morning, the tools were at the end of the line so I didn't wait around. Hit another sale a few miles down the road since I was up that way. Boy I'm sure glad I did. Picked up a Prentiss 181 for 7 bucks. It is a little rough, but I can't complain.

Hit another sale and picked up some sockets, a 1/2 extension, and a pair of crescent pliers. 5 dollars. I got 2 9/16s, a thorsen and a williams. Also picked up a proto half inch medium deep socket.

Husky Elec. Chainsaw ($15):

A cheap Taiwan toolkit bundled with a Caliper for $6. It turns out the ratchet and 3 sockets are SO! The Mitutoyo Caliper might be too far gone.

You guys did alright this weekend. The only sale that looked promising has a Craftsman double stack old box, kind of a blue gray in color, full of China and Taiwan tools and a set of C'man nut drivers. $700 What a waste of time and gas. I didn't have the balls to tell them that it might be worth $125-150

Hit two yard sales and the local flea market. Scored the vintage GE oscillating fan for $5 at the first yard sale and the Christmas lights for $2 at the second one. I paid $15 for the 1/2HP Craftsman block grinder. He was asking $25, but I pointed out the broken tool holder on the one side. He agreed on the $15. I have been looking for a 1/2 HP block grinder for quite some time. I'll use the broken side to buff with a wire wheel. The other tools were $5 total. The tools are 3/8" Proto wrench, and extension, 15/16th & 1" SO wrench and a 3/8th" to 1/2" SK Wayne adapter and 3/8" SK Wayne extension.

last weekend I helped my father in law clean out his shed and came home w/ 3 boxes of tools. most of 'em from the 30s to 50s.

earlier today I went to a car show/swap. no tools, but 2 great books and a catalog from 1981

Three planned stops today, two random. First stop nothing, second stop I got the two chems and funnel for $1.10

Third stop was a second day of the sale(I missed yesterday), only a couple interesting things. I asked about the Milwaukee Sawzall box first, $1!!

Then I inquired about the wood lathe, they said $20, I fired back with how about $20 for it and the box, deal!

and it's a crown top!

Then I look down and see the NOS 4 jaw chuck and mention that it is a lathe part, they throw it in

On my way out the door, I spot this $10 lamp, I ask if they'll take $5, happily!

Once I remove the base and fab a mount, it will find a home on the Atlas mill I got last weekend.

Unplanned stop was looking bad, then I saw this cool wooden box on the left with what appeared to be precision instrument parts so I ask how much. Man replies $10 with the watch, I pay him and pick it up and he hands me the other box on the right and says take this too! :Willy_nil

Box on the left is all Watchmaker lathe parts Box on the right was a lot of brass odds and ends.

Last unplanned stop was nothing, total I spent $36.10 and gas, not bad for a stormy morning!

I found a few sales on the way home this afternoon. Nothing really good. Lots of just misc junk that I really didn't need to waste money on. Ended up buying these two things for a whopping 75¢ total. A small craftsman folding knife and what I thought were a pair of craftsman diagonal cutter, but after rust removal it looks like offshore. O well they will be turned into sheet metal pliers. I was happy spending minimal $.

Saw a really nice little BP hammer, but they wanted way too much IMHO. Then a really nice lateral cabinet type thing for $5, unfortunatly no way to get it home and no place to put it once home.

Sorry Warmpancakes, I can't agree, before they finally got to making RTV, sealants, "Gorilla Snot" as it was affectionately known, was the bees knees and WAY better than that atrocity black Permatex. With the "new" RTV sealants, it's no longer desirable, but it ain't bad stuff in the right application.

yup, 2nd batch is soaking in evapo-rust presently. a few early "C" craftsman. a cool plvmb ratchet. some Williams, billings, and Armstrong wrenches.
also a king **** witworth wrench.
my favorite is the athol machine co. calipers

My $2 Caliper cleaned up real good and it now has a new crystal. (Thanks to Trader Joe's Animal Crackers). Good enough for a bench top "beater".
