I don't use the puller for the tie rod and ball joints.A few smacks on the side of the knuckle with a BFH is what I do pops them out.I reinstall the nut whe hitting on the side of the knuckle at the ball joint area so it does not do damage.

I have 4 of those tools, all bought separately as needed. I betcha I paid more for any 2 than the price for the kit. If they're the same quality as those sold previously I believe you'll find them useful. Once they start to flex or yield noticeably it's best to abort and proceed to plan B.

+1 !

I "rented" a set similar to that to remove a stud from a pitman arm (you don't want to hit a pitman arm because they are directly attached to the steering gear box and you could damage that). It did NOT work ! I had to heat the pitman arm as much as I could with a propane torch and then pounded on the stud (it was going to be replaced anyway).

I have a similar set from OTC that works great. Yeah you can hit stuff with a hammer, but this works fine and seems more civilized. I just put it on and load it up some and tap the end with a hammer. The big puller also comes in handy for pulling the inne race off of an axle shaft.

You'll hate that pitman arm puller.

Get a forged one rather than cast. Even the made in the USA cast pullers will spread open

Great kit. But as said previously not uber heavy duty. Dont use them for pitman arms. The conical style from snapon of otc work the best for pitman arms.

I have at least 6 pitman arm pullers and I use my Snap On one 95 % of the time. After that I have OTC puller. All the rest kinda stink.

The similar set I rented had a cast pitman arm puller. It spread.

The big puller with adjustable arms would not fit in the space.
