Running boards with dimple die hole

Would the high side of a dimple die hole provide a slip resistant surface on a running board. Just thinking of some stuff.

I was going to do that if I made tube rock sliders.
If you do that as in the pic above of the black JK..... it might look nice, but all kinds of **** is going to get trapped under the holes & its' gonna rust it out.
The holes need to be open underneath & yes, i'd put the high side up for better tracton.

A very large punching machine. I put some deck plate on not too long ago and I wondered the same thing.

I never had any problew with mud and such collecting in the holes but I did very mild off roading. If they were spaced just a tad I think mud would flush out better.
No probles with rust. The dimpled material is 304 SS and the rocker steps are powder coated aluminum.

Alan: Yours looks very nice! & you have it covered with it being stainless & aluminum.
What I was saying is that if you are doing it on an off-road vehicle that sees a lot of mud & sand, etc they will probably get pretty pounded full & cause problems.
Also, if you live in the "rust belt" those would probably hold a lot of salt & cause everything around it to rust out.
A friend put round tube steps on his Toyota & it's unbelievable how much snow / slush / salt builds up in between them in winter.

Edit: I now see where the OP is from..... probably no worry about salt & snow there.
