Why won't it work? How is it not safe?

My current wireless is not reliable in the garage. I currently have a 2tb time capsule with integrated a/b/g/n. So if I try to do it wirelessly, that won't also be reliable. It will only be as good as the source.

Because CAT5 is NOT rated for 300v. Building wire is rated for either 300v or 600v, which are 2 of the classes of building electrical. If an electrical wire shorts to the CAT5, u WILL have big problems. Plus, u will also have lots of interference! Put 2 conduits in for low voltage and move the CAT5!

Did u get inspected? If u did, Im surprised the inspector didnt catch that!!

Also, what type of cable did u use for your feeder? What are the markings on the jacket? It looks like SER....which cant and shouldnt be used in underground conduit because its not rated for wet locations....

In post #70 in the pic with the feeder, it looks like the wire is pretty close to the edge of the bottom plate. If conduit is not guarding the cable behind the bottom plate, then a nail guard plate is needed!

Third item- Maybe its there and the pic is just bad but I dont see a GEC(grounding electrode conductor) which would be a bare CU wire running either from a UFER ground(which ACEMAN, in your other thread, discovered u didnt put in the slab) or 2 ground rods. Since u supposedly have no UFER, did u put in 2 ground rods spaced 6' apart? The wire connecting them to the panel has to be continous. It can be unprotected if u use #6 CU. If u use #8 CU then it needs to be inside/protected by conduit!

The bare aluminum grounding conductor in the SER cable will turn into a toothpaste like substance when installed underground, it needs to be replaced with the proper conductor.

No anchor bolts placed during pour?

Did you epoxy in bolts after you set up the walls? What was your process there?

No stem wall? I personally like the flat slab better and think it is the best way to go but most garages seem to have stem walls.

Why did you put the sheathing on horizontally? It generally goes on up and down for nailing so you get shear value.

Why so little for your trimmers, especially on the garage door opening? One 2X trimmer under that header?

Why no blocking to keep the studs straight?

What happened to that electrical conduit that was shown in the first set of pictures? I don't see it under the panel? Your conduit looked very shallow in the pic. How deep is it?

Overall, great job (except the elect issues) and you did it fast.

Some of my personal thoughts as well... Great build though!

SER is rated for wet locations. It just can't be installed in conduit underground.

Yep.. run the conduit up to the garage panel and use Mobile Home Feeder.

The bare aluminum grounding conductor in the SER cable will turn into a toothpaste like substance when installed underground, it needs to be replaced with the proper conductor.

I would have come up outside with that conduit against the building and in up high. That is going to leak like a sieve.

Thanks guys. Will address some of the concerns especially the SER cable.

No anchor bolts placed during pour?

We used red head wedge bolts. It's code and passed inspection

Did you epoxy in bolts after you set up the walls? What was your process there?

There was no need since we used the wedge bolts.

No stem wall? I personally like the flat slab better and think it is the best way to go but most garages seem to have stem walls.

No stem wall.

Why did you put the sheathing on horizontally? It generally goes on up and down for nailing so you get shear value.

Not sure. We just followed the plan that was engineered for my build.

Why no blocking to keep the studs straight?

We kept the studs straight when we were nailing the sheathing by constantly measuring 16 OC.

What happened to that electrical conduit that was shown in the first set of pictures? I don't see it under the panel? Your conduit looked very shallow in the pic. How deep is it?

I decided not to install it.

Overall, great job (except the elect issues) and you did it fast.

Thanks! Had a blast building it! All my neighbors, post lady, UPS guy commented how fast it went it.

Got some exterior lights installed. Oh and glass front fridge to keep the drinks cold.
