Cleaned the deck and replaced belts and the tensioner pulley bracket on the mower. Crapped out on me in the middle of the "before the rains" mowing last week. $%#. Got the lawn remowed and cleaned up before the next set of rains. Ha! JD only wanted $40+ for the $12 bracket %^$#*!

Replaced the wiring harness in a bobcat 743, old foundry machine with 30,000 plus hours. Worked first try and no magic smoke.

R&R'd the garage beer box. It's funny... the bottom section was warm and the freezer section was still working just fine. I tried blowing out the coils last week but no joy. Oh well, it was free and the replacement was a C-note.

I spent a fair amount of time removing about 40 years of old crud off the frame of my 1972 Chevy Cheyenne truck... multiple doses of Simple Green, lots of scaping and six wash-downs with the pressure washer and she is getting clean. Then treated any surface rust I could find. Sprayed primer. Finish coat of chassis black will be going on today!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I spent most of the day tidying, moving boxes to the shed with a view to getting my latest tool in place. One portable hydraulic scissor car lift. Finally got it in but moving it around on my rough concrete yard is "fun". I need to look at a better way as I want to able to move it in and out of the garage easily.

It goes more than high enough in my garage and if I was to lift my kit car to the top of the travel I'll have to take the screen off! You use the power unit to lift and move the whole thing around.
Although it sits very low when down......

......I had to put my kit car on to the wheel dollies to get it over the lift. I feel some 4 by 8 planks of wood are required. It should go under our daily drives easily enough but the kit has very little clearance!

The lift speed is more than adequate, best £1100 I've spent in ages!

Started taking apart my truck's engine. It's ready for the head to come off as soon as I come up with something to hold the timing chain and tensioner in place.

#%&$@* head gasket.

Took a car and trailer load of **** to the dump, the car load came out of the garage mostly stuff thats just been chucked in and stockpiled until we had enough for a car load. Then I washed the wifes car and mucked it out inside, hasn't been done since out big summer holiday in France and it was a total tip. The me and my boys washed my car (there goes any shine that was left on the paintwork thanks to two six year olds!) I also wired in a small flourescent light over the new bench and tacked up an odd strip of insulation I found.

Removed the good frame from the 53HenryJ and then put the bad 51 frame under it, all covered up until I get the 51 done.

Here is the 51 with the 80 Buick turbo V6 test fit. This frame is badly bent and cracked.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Not a lot really that you could say was garage related however I did get a heap of stuff done around the yard and house,
. Moved and stacked a pile of very old house bricks.
. Moved a few plants from the fernery area that will soon become a storage shed.
. Fitted new smoke detectors in the house.
. Cleaned carport gutters out that were blocked with leaves.
. Watered potted plants.
. Swept and cleaned yard.

Put new bearings and and races in my 16' flatbed trailer today. Bought it new in 95. This is the first time I've had the bearings open. They had got pretty hot at one point. Took about a hour per hub. I really need to get a race driver. A Knocking the races out and back in with a big brass drift takes forever.

There are plenty of race drivers looking for jobs.
Are they quicker at replacing bearing than the average Joe Bloggs?

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I helped my buddy a little more on his V8 Miata project. We installed the aftermarket frame rail stiffeners, re-attached the fuel and brake lines, and cut the shifter opening to accomodate the T5 ******.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I am usually a bit behind on my posts, so this is actually from last week. Not really garage work but around the house type.

A friend was having a pool dug in so I was able to get a few truck loads of fill dirt. After deciding that a shovel and wheelbarrow just wasn't going to cut it. I lined up a rental Bobcat skid steer to do the work. Well the day before I was going to do the work, I had the opportunity get some asphalt grindings from the road project on my street.

My side driveway extension for the extra car for my boys, I hate playing the driveway shuffle.

I was also planning on making a pad to park my trailer on. Only problem is that I had WAAY more grindings than places to put it all. So my pad grew just a bit.

The good thing about this asphalt project was that I got the side part done before the road crew finished the new street. So I was able to talk the guy driving the roller to roll out my side extension for me. So between the FREE fill dirt and the driveway extension work, I have just over $200 in the project. And that is from the bobcat rental.

I've been working on a couple of old blowtorches (Otto Bernz + Dunlap).
I like old quality stuff. My wife calls it hoarding. I call it collecting.:)
