... and it turned my Hazet ratchet into something that I'll actually use. Ultra smooth now.
Thanks, Merk.

Now I wonder how long I'll have to have a diaper under the ratchet...

You're Welcome! :)

You can bleed it off by playing with it as you're watching TV. :)

I'll try that when my wife isn't at home... :bounce:

Wanna sell or trade it???

Well, not anymore :D

Seriously, though, I've had it for something like 12-15 years. Bought it when I was still living in Europe. Until a couple of years ago, it was the only decent ratchet I owned. I don't think I'll ever part with it..

I just have to ask Merkava...what prompted you to use ***'y lube in a ratchet? As much as I hate to admit it, I'm becoming a convert, although I wish it wasn't red, because it makes one hell of a mess.

BTW, it doesn't turn a pig into a swan. Just for kicks, I tried it on a (never used) Cman raised panel. That thing is still ****, even when it's oozing red...

daveblank, our resident Matco dealer told me about it. :)

When I was a tech I had a ratchet that was acting up. I took it apart & found that the grease had dried up. I cleaned it real well. I had some wheel bearing grease & the Permatex. I tried the Permatex & have used nothing since. When I repair a ratchet for a customer, I use it.

where do you get this stuff locally?

Any good parts store will have it.

While it won't turn pig into a swan it does turn an awful POS craftsman raised panel ratchet into a considerably less awful POS that you wouldn't mind using from time to time.

Thats a good tool dealer... going the extra mile to make someones tool work a little better than he had to! :)

Awesome guy. I have a 1/2" 17" long Matco I need rebuilt... makes me tempted to just ask my dealer if he'll give me the kit and let me build it myself with a little red goo love ;)

Just hand him the lube & tell him to use it.

just curious if your customers are able to appreciate the difference. Do they come back and ask what you did to the ratchet, or do they tell you how much smoother their ratchets are?

To some customers it doesn't make a difference as long as it works. I've had a few request that I do it to their others.

I use the Lucas engine assembly lube in mine. Its very sticky but makes the ratchets extremely smooth.

I suspect just about any engine assembly lube would react the same as another, regardless the brand. The task the stuff was designed for is the same from one to another so I bet it matters not one iota which brand you choose.

Was in Advance today and succumbed to the Dark Side - walked out with a bottle of the Red Lube O' Luv. Now I gotta find the time to try it out. Am I correct in seeing some opinions seem to run that this stuff isn't quite as wonderful in the higher tooth-count ratchets? Little to no effect on ratchets already running smooooooth?

What I have noticed, with old Indestro round heads, is that the notchiness is gone when the Permatex is used, it almost feels like the teeth are not engaging and it's slick as can be. I tried it in a tired old SO F720, and it feels slicker to the point that it almost feels more worn-out, but works just fine. I'm just not wild about the red goop getting everywhere, purely a cosmetic concern of mine. It also seems to make the ratcheting noise quieter, it muffles the clicking by virtue of being more viscous.

I think that sums it up very well.

I also tried it on a Cman pro 60 tooth and wasn't all that happy. Seems to viscous for fine teeth (at least at the current temperatures, it snowed last night here in Houston...)
