What brand is this vise?

I picked this up off a CL ad for $25. I'd say it weighs close to 60 lbs or better because it's definitely bigger and a good bit heavier than my Parker P5. I couldn't find any markings on it anywhere, it is pretty dirty and seems to have been repainted once upon a time. The one jaw plate(?) insert piece is broken into 2 pieces, but doesn't affect the usability of the vise at all. Who made it, how old is it? Is it any good?

Kind of looks like a Wilton shop vise. The rectangular recesses along the sides are where stickers used to be. Also the swivel base just has the look of a Wilton. But I could be wrong.

After scraping and cleaning layers and layers of crud and old paint, it appears that it was originally painted red and the only markings that I can find is a tiny "N" inside a square on the side of the jaw and the number 111 031 in small numbers under the jaw on the other side.

I second Jason's idea of the vise being a wilton vise. You may have some luck by going to wiltonviseparts.net for jaws.

I'm pretty sure its a Wilton. They made a lot of different variations of their mid level "mechanics vises" and yours is one of them. Its almost as if they were assembled with what ever parts were laying around the werehouse at that moment.

IF you want some further conformation that its a Wilton, take the operating handle out and wire wheel the nut. I bet you will find another 6 digit number, ending with the number "9" on it somewhere

I don't know about it being a Wilton. I have never seen a Wilton like that style where the screw was exposed out the back or the small anvil horn on the rear.I could be wrong since I'm far from a Wilton expert. I say it is decent quality import semi copy of a Wilton. Just my 2¢.

Not a vise (or vise) expert here either, but I think I had one similar new in the 60's. Import. I wonder if the Wilton experts have seen many jaws break like that.

I was looking on that Wiltonviseparts website and not finding anything that worked for my vise. I went out and got a few measurements and photos, and I think I have found most if not all the numbers or markings stamped on the vise. I have pretty much everything wire-wheeled and scraped ready to be wiped down and then repainted. The only marking I found on the nut inside the vise (after I took it out and cleaned it up) is that boxed "N".

The 2 numbers that I found are 110019 on the dynamic jaw, and 111034 on the main part of the vise.

Edit: I attached a photo of the swivel lock, hoping someone could give me some advice on where to find another one like it for the other side of the vise.

All you have to do is search for Wilton Vise on eBay and there are plenty of examples.

With those part #'s you found, you should be able to call Wilton and get more info about your vise. They might have parts for it, worst thing you might be able to beg KMScott to make you a pair of jaws...

Though I didn't really pay attention to the numbers, so kudos to you for the keen eye.

If you can't find the swivel lock, maybe a coupling nut or a large standoff could be drilled for the handle bar. Not pretty, but close?

I haven't found a good place to buy parts for this style vise. I found replacement jaws, but they are about $90 a set which makes it almost pointless to buy, because these vises aren't as rare or even as heavy duty as many others. I might try to make the parts that I need for myself, maybe this is my excuse to start some backyard metal casting....

put a set of smooth jaws on it i made a set of smooth jaws out of some A2 Tool steel that was not hardened, or ? Aluminum or what have you, you can pick a complete vise up with aggressive jaws for gripping material and keep that one for delicate things you don't want to mar up

Much as I like that idea, I only have room in my shop 1 vise... I have magnetic soft jaws that I can attach for delicate work.

Consider buying dimensional aluminum stock from mcmaster carr for your jaw faces. Ive done it for my primary vise and think Ill stay with it and just keep a second set handy

I'm attaching some photos of the main nut just for reference.

I picked up today (11/21/14) a Wilton 6" Jaw vise with the 110019 on the dynamic jaw, and 111034 on the main part of the vise.

On mine, it had one sticker still on one side, which I'll attach as an FYI.

Thanks for pics of the main nut, as mine also was broke, as it had only one of the two wings still intact on it.

Rest of mine is fairly nice after wire wheeling it after the before pics were shot, with exception of missing pipe clamps.

Will have to make decision on whether to keep it and search for missing parts, or to make it a donor for someone else to get their vise up and running.

BTW, did we determine the vise we have is a model 1646, a model 646 or something else?

Any info is appreciated.
