55x50 steel building

Hello--finally moving forward with construction on my building. They are breaking ground today.

It is a 55x50 building with 35x50 of it being enclosed and 20x55 is a covered storage area for my fifth wheel camper and bass boat. 3 12x12 rollup doors and 2 man doors. I have a Rotary lift that will eventually go in.

It is a steel prefab building purchased from Premier Buildings in Dacula Ga.

The clearing and grading guys will have to remove approximately 25 trees and a lot of underbrush to clear the 100x100 area that I need for the driveway and shop. My goal is to be able to drive the fifth wheel all the way around the building to avoid the need for backing it into the storage area.

I went with steel because of my budget. I would've loved to have built a brick shop to match my house but I just couldn't swing it right now and I really need to get the camper and boat in out of the weather before they ruin.

I read through your other threads and saw your budget go from $20K to $40K. That is pretty much the way my planning has gone. Are you still shooting for $40K?

Yes and no. I wont be able to completely finish the building with electric and plumbing at $40k. The building that I wanted was going to be $60-70k

Well--the grading and ground work is done. This photo was a couple of days ago as he was finishing the grading. The red clay had to be brought in because I had 'powdery brown sugar soil' that was good for planting taters but not buildings apparently. You can see the stakes in this picture. 55' left to right and 50' front to back in this picture. The 3 12x12 doors will be on the right side and the covered storage will be on the left. There will be a man door on the left front corner of the building under the covered storage and the right rear corner on the end of the building.

Wouldn't you know that I would own the only place in north Georgia without red Georgia clay... $1400 extra for 7 loads of dirt. Budget is getting blown out of the water already.

I provided the measurements for the grader to place the shop foundation--it ended up being too far to the right I think. It will have to work though. I will have 25' of driveway all the way around the building.

Wow, that's going to be a nice big shop! So what do you have into the building "kit" and what did your land clearing run you, if you don't mind me asking? Have a price for concrete yet?

I don't mind. The kit cost $20,750 and I had $4900 in the clearing and grading. He took out approximately 25 trees. The area where the shop is going looked like the wooded area around it before he started. He also hauled in 7 loads of dirt and spread it. I had him leave the larger tree trunks for me to cut up for firewood. He cut the stumps, limbs and tops off-stacked the trunks up and hauled off the rest. I couldn't be more pleased with the cost of the work that he did for me. Now I have to get out there and cut up the trees and split the logs and stack them in the shed that I have not built yet. Yippeee...

Assuming you meant slab---I have no idea. Paying a guy.

You need your car fixed--Im likely your guy. You need construction done-better ask someone else.

The enclosed portion is 35x50 and the covered portion is 20x50. The eave height is 16'.

The covered portion had to be big enough and high enough for me to put my fifth wheel camper in there. That determined the 16' height.

The 35x50 portion is that size because I couldn't afford anything larger.

I have a crew cab Chevy dually, an S10, a Grand Prix, an 88 Monte Carlo SS, a popup camper and a bass boat that need to go inside. For now I will also have a lawn tractor and two mowers inside as well--shed coming for those later.

I hope to eventually build a shed for the mowers and lawn equipment as well as a shed for the boat and popup camper. I also have plans to buy a pontoon boat in the next 2 years or so and will need a place for it to go.

It sounds like it will be a nice building. From your site picture it appears that you will have room to expand in the future, if necessary. I hope the construction goes well for you.

Things are moving a little slow but should pick up soon. All permits are signed off on--footings have been inspected/approved and the floor should be poured today or tomorrow.

Cant really tell much because its dark--but I HAVE CONCRETE!!!

This was at about 9:30 last night--they were still there working the concrete.

A little more progress Cold muddy mess. Im a little worried about the concrete. They have mud all over it and grinding it into it with the machinery. I will reserve judgement ( and fussing ) until after they say they are done. If it looks like **** Im going to be ticked.

Making headway. Had to rent a Lull to be able to do the top beam--dang it! We only needed a tall fork lift but they didn't have one available so I had to rent this monster--budget is being blown away.

Also, the front corner of the concrete broke at the entrance. Not sure what they are going to do to fix that--they mentioned cutting out that section and redoing it.

Yes, you will find that the word "budget" is a misnomer. It should be "wish list" or something like that. Good luck.....it will all be worth it.

They are going to need to cut that section of concrete out and replace it. Said it "froze". I dunno--not a concrete guy. I do know that I don't plan to pay for it to be made right.

The construction crew is charging me $4,000 to erect the building.

So far its going to be right at $40,000 not including the electric or any plumbing.

Just about done with the main portion and I will have to wait a while before I can go any further. I have taxes coming up, a rental house that will be vacant soon and this project ran over budget.

It has been so muddy that I havent been able to get close to the building at any angle other than this one. I hope to get some shots from the 'front' of the building and the inside so I can post them soon.

The gravel should be finished today and then I can start moving some stuff down there that is in the attached garage at this point. I wont have doors on the front bay doors for a while which *****.
