I have ~60 hex and torx sockets that have been a hassle, they are semi loose in a drawer in my tool chest. I use these laser cut foam trays to keep my standard sockets and accessories in place.

How do you folks keep these organized, I cant stand them up on rails or trays unless I use a deep drawer, and with the different length bits keeping them in rows seems like it wastes a ton of space.

Find a case that you can fit enough foam in and keep them in there, then keep the case in a deep bottom drawer or sidecabinet.

:dunno:

Thanks for the suggestions. I have some long shank hex with ball ends that kind of complicate things.

I'm pretty OCD about keeping my shop organized and my hex & torx socket drawer has been the one ulgy spot I couldn't sort out. Im gonna try some things, my fallback plan has been to shadow them in foam and cut them out.

Oops...hex socket not hex bit. I was tired.

I use some mechanics time saver rails but that could get expensive for 60 of 'em.

I just use the cases that they came in. Like said above, maybe you can buy some unwanted cases?

The $25 Kobalt (Lowe's) tray works for me. It's got 4 rails (1 1/4", 2 3/8", 1 1/2"), and holds nearly all my oddball stuff. The ones that are too long to stand straight up, I keep in a little box. There aren't many of them, so it's not difficult to pick out the right size on the fly.

I really like the socket holders made by Westling but being a cheap !@#$% I decided to make my own. This was one of the first ones. The rest of them are as deep as the drawer and I ended up filling the drawer.

I use the boxes they come in too. I just use the stack method vs leaving them open because I have no room. All the green SK boxes are torq and hex sets.

Not to hijack but I have the extra long Matco hex in SAE/Metric. Would love to figure out how to store those as they came on a rail and are too tall for my drawers...
