I just picked this up today for the box, but it has some goodies inside too. I wish that a) all the original Snap On pieces were there and b) that the tools weren't so rusty. It measures 20.25x6.75x2.875. How old is this box? I love the patina. What came in this box when new?
It came with an old unmarked 1/2 hex thru drive ratchet, a massey ferguson usa plastic handled screwdriver, a lakeside 1/4 hex nutdriver w/5 nesting sockets, a plomb wf-21 3/8 ratchet, a plomb 3/8 extension 12" long, a 6" snap on 3/8 extension, a snap on 3/8 swivel, and a 3/8 snap on sliding t-handle (I believe these last 3 to be original to the set, they all have the same mark which is a weird looking 5).
It also has 39 other sockets in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 drive mostly a complete set with a couple missing and a couple duplicates, most is snap on (some of which looks newer) but there are plomb, wright, blackhawk, duro-chrome, s-k chrome, s-k, billings, new britain, hinsdale, and craftsman. The biggest sockets, 1-1/4 thru 7/8 are all snap on 1/2 drive and I believe are also original. Some have the 5 and some have patent #s.
lastly, what are these craftsman sockets for? They just say craftsman =v= nothing else. they have a notch and there is a split ring captive inside. 2 are 3/8 drive one is 1/4 drive.
oh and i forgot...also got this federal indicator that has timken markings.

Mind if I ask what it all set you back?
I think that was a very good deal on a bunch of neat vintage stuff. What size is the largest socket? I'd carefully clean and straighten up that box. The stamped SO emblem and the decal are really cool and original. Amazing that decal has lasted 75+ years. Here is a link to what I'm pretty sure that box is, a K-80 "Utility box", from the 1938 catalog.
