hemifalcon, if you have #1-3 that is as much of a "set" as I ever see. they made a #4 but I never see those around. other companies did make tappets as well, including larger wrenches and odd 32nd sizes. (I have one old "Long C" Craftsman in 32nds)

Got this load for $25 this morning. Not a stellar haul be decent enough.

The red box is Penncraft, I've never seen a Penncraft toolbox before. The silver one has no brand name on it but it has thicker metal than the Penncraft, better built. Anybody recognize it? I like the removable half-tray on it.

All the junk in red tray is import stuff headed for the dumpster. The other tools are mostly Craftsman =V= series, the big 1" socket is Snap On.

Cheap spray paint is always good, most are nearly full.

Today was another day at work, as will the next 2 Fridays so i won't be posting too much unless i hit some killer Saturday sales.

The outboard was from a garage i picked the week prior but failed to buy the motor. The more i thought about it, the more i wanted it so i went back. I think i made the right decision at 30.00:rocker:
It runs really strong for a 3.5HP motor thats 67 years old.

The second set of pics are from a Saturday sale. I was in the first group of 10 in the door but the only guy interested in the tools.

Craftsman tool box for 3/8" including the offset speeder, long extension and universal joint, all underline logo with a Circle U. It seems that Plomb made these guys and the look like new!

The rest of the pile consisted of a hole saw, router bits, cratsman ratchet, Proto LA sliding T handle and a huge bucket of copper sweat fittings. Not too bad for 20.00

Damn! If I saw that motor for 30 bucks I probably would have ripped my jeans whipping out my wallet!

It didn't look that good when i saw it. The entire motor was covered in a fine layer of black/brown oily frosting that took 3 days to remove.

I love picking up and repairing old outboards and the only reason i can think of, for not grabbing the motor the second i saw it, was i had already spent too much that day and didn't want to load another item into my truck.

Nothing from yard sales, but I found this in a Pawn shop. Snap On Torqometer RT600. It is not in stellar condition but it seems to work fine. The crystal is missing from the dial. This one is a 3/8" drive. Any clues as to the age of it?
I will be selling it so if anyone is interested PM me.

i could be wrong but I believe ELGIN was sears' sporting line. made by others but labled as ELGIN. when you google elgin mostly bicycles will come up. (elgin clocks/watches are a different company alltoghter).
I do know elgin was sold through sears up until the early/mid 40s than they changes their sporting goods line to J.C.Higgins(bikes,coolers,pool tables, ect)
and carried the name JCHiggins up to the 60s(maybe 70s)
hope this helps.
and I have an ELGIN motor top tank similar to that one:beer:

Nice pick-up on that outboard bigcaddy.

I always enjoy seeing those old outboards. I remember seeing a lot of those old timers when I was a kid hanging around the docks in my dads hometown on Lake Ontario.

I currently have an ESKA in my basement and a small Mcculloch in my moms basement. Someday I will get them running again.

Thanks for the photo's

The two I have had in the past were part of a special transmission rebuild tool kit Snap On offered. They normally bring around $10 to $15 on ebay.

You **** BC!!!

I had two stops planned for this morning but something came up....the snooze button :lol_hitti

I did go to the most enticing one though about an hour before closing. There was lots of really good rusty stuff that I already have some of, so I dug around until I found some things I don't have. While checking out, I mentioned that I hated to know what I missed out on this morning, guy cracked an evil smirk and simply said, "tool sales were good this morning"

$25 haul got me a lamp, Delta miter gage, pillow block/pulleys I could possibly use for a jack shaft on the new band saw, Snap On speeder and drill index, Craftsman mini pliers and snips and Bonney bent nose slip joints.

Very cool stuff. That outboard takes me back. My 1st outboard was a 30's evinrude, around that HP. Mine had the exposed flywheel that you had to wrap a rope around. Yous look a bit fancier (safer) than that. Glad to see that yours at least has the separate timing and carb adjustments for speed control. :lol_hitti That is a beauty for the age, enjoy it.

O.. very nice find on the delta miter gauge, that looks very complete too. Total you **** for $25 on all that.

I hit an estate sale today at lunch time.

I picked up a some stuff and saw this and passed on it. Put the first batch in the car and circled back for a second look. There was no price and the guy in the garage said the "girls inside set the prices".

I found the lady and she came back with the right price - $5.00. I thought I heard $25.00 and she saw the look on my face - and we clarified things.

It's a Challenger carry box with a tote tray. There is a sticker with No 2069 on the inside of the lid. It needs a good cleaning and it's going to my nephew as his first box.

I don't know anything about it - but it doesn't seem like it's going to become a family heirloom.

Cheers

Jim

BC great score on the motor! What I can't understand is why you had to go back to get it!

Jim, I like that carry box! I try to pass on most but I'd have gone for that one!

Nothing today for me, and probably not this weekend. It's my turn to put on a yard sale. I'm not putting a lot of tools out, but I got a ton of other stuff to flip/get rid of...

Most of the tools I will put out came from far west of me, and will be priced to sell, but there will be a couple of things not from the west of me priced to make the potential buyers eyes open and give me the :wtf: look... If they sell, fine, if not, maybe another time! :D

Swung by my favorite pawn shop on my lunch hour today. Picked up this Craftsman breaker bar, 13/16 spark plug socket, 1/2 deep socket and 7/16 wrench/socket combo. Total $6.

Zkling,

I actually have this motors little brother. My old man gave me a Elgin 1.2hp single cylinder last year but i never got around to fixing it up. This motor is a 3.5hp 2 cyl and runs like a top. I've had a few others, mostly Eltos and Evinrudes but nothing as clean as this one. Ill have to get my other Evinrude Handi-Twin running next:beer:

Outlaw,

The only reason i felt safe not buying it was the fact that this was a private pick, not a sale open to the public. The homeowner was very nice and welcomed me back more then once. The first round of pricing was a bit high so i didn't want to push my luck that day.

It seems that i have been slowly getting away from actual estate sales and finding things in unexpected places now. Hopefully it keeps paying off. Too everybody else, keep up the hunt and the killer finds:beer:

hemifalcon, if you have #1-3 that is as much of a "set" as I ever see. they made a #4 but I never see those around. other companies did make tappets as well, including larger wrenches and odd 32nd sizes. (I have one old "Long C" Craftsman in 32nds)

Cool.. I like them because they are thin and long.. I keep forgetting about the "tappet" purpose of the skinny wrenches.. I just went down and grabbed the kit and here's what makes it up..

No .1 (3 of them-17/32 and 7/16 combination)
No .2 (3 of them-1/2 and 9/16 combination)
No .3 (2 of them-5/8 and 11/16 combination)
Williams "1090" Superwrench 1/2 and 7/16 combination

I really like the containment of the blue holder for the wrenches.. If anyone needs one of the No1 and No2 wrenches--let me know. I'm guessing there's only supposed to be 2 of each part.

I have #1-4 but the #4 is the only one I have ever seen in the wild.

Great score hemifalcon!!!!

Thanks nine4gmc.

Nice looking old craftsman ratchets, hemifalcon. Most of them I see are rusted.

Yeah.. these are in pretty good shape.. they were pretty gooped up with grease--but cleaned up really easy..

Morning folks! Been to one garage sale and I didn't get any tools. But I did get a extreme jenga game for the kids and a expandable canopy all for $7. The lady said the canopy had a small tear on the corner but for a 10'*10' canopy I took a gamble as it was folded up and in the bag when I seen it. Sitting at a house now that advertised tools but not open til 9am and its 8:23. Wasn't much else going on so I'm just surfing here on the web!

Well that last one was a bust! Advertise for tools and then tell us that the tools are needed to work on the house and to leave a number to call when the tools are not needed anymore.

I only left with some plastic ornaments for the girls to paint for a $1.

Yup, that's the kind of thing I keep hearing when I show up for advertised tool sales and see none. I wasted gas on 3 of those this morning.

5 planned stops today, first 3 were bust, 4th I got the metal caster and ax head for $0.10 ea :willy_nil
pic00421.jpg

on the way to the last stop I hit an unplanned stop and saw the 3 drawer bottom compartment Craftsman roller(missing wheels) and the medical or institution(I aaume because of color inside) metal cabinet for $10 ea :willy_nil I paid for them but had to come back in my truck so we didn't mess up the van.
pic00420.jpg

Final planned stop was a bust so we grabbed breakfast and went back for my truck. After picking up that, we hit one last unplanned stop on the way and I got this (motly Stanley) lot for $10, includes the Wiss snips and two china thumb wheel ratchets.

The sockets are all 1/2" drive Craftsman BE series sockets 12-pt. Only one odd-ball in here.. The little Snap-On, Hazet, and Dowidat wrenches were grabbed from a pile--they were hidden it seemed.. Never used either.
The HUOT Drill Index is filled with good bits as well.
The single "PLOMB" flathead driver was sitting in the center of workbench.. Only my second branded piece..

The wedge-shaped piece of "metal" in the center of the photo was grabbed with some other nice machine stock for press/vice purposes. However--it's "different".. It's VERY HEAVY for it's size.. And--it's got a strange coating of corrosion which is light green in color in places.. I cleaned some of it off-but it's a mystery metal right now..

Nice scores everyone! I stopped by the pawn shop Wednesday and picked up a Mac 3/8 drive flex head xr11f and a 1/2 dr. None Better socket set which is nearly complete in the original box just missing the ratchet which was replaced with a Snap on SV-71A and maybe some larger sockets and to top it off a Kennedy MC-22 for the sum of $50 dollars.

The last picture is a Swivel Knife for cutting detail into leather. Your index finger hooks over the fork to put pressure on the blade, while your thumb and forefinger turn the knife to follow a curve or detail.

I'm not familiar with the brand. I would guess medium quality. Better than what I got at Tandy Leather back when they still existed. Nice.

Scored BIG IMO today. I was planning on heading to an auction I normal attend every other Saturday, but my wife was off from work and suggested we go to the local flee market instead. I owe her dinner for this.

The industrial light has been on my bucket list for a long time, but the S/O puller cabinet/tool board has always been EXTREMELY high on the aforementioned list. It's not complete and far from perfect, but it will be. My buddy has pretty much all the other odds and ends for me in a miss-matched set he acquired awhile ago. I was like a kid in a candy store. This will get the red carpet resto treatment in the future.

I was excited, but at the same time extremely nervous to ask the seller what he wanted for it. At first I couldn't find him/her, but then I just followed the line of people with tools and cash in their hands. AHHHHHHHHH, it was the estate guy who blows stuff out even if he knows it's worth a good bit. I wasn't out of the woods yet, but I had to put my "negotiation face" on and go into battle. I said "my man, what are you asking for the cabinet?" He said (I was shaking in my boots) "100 bucks.......it's all snap-on including the cabinet". I was ready to pull the cash out right then, but I calmed down since the crowd around him dispersed, and decided to see if he was willing to let it go for a few shekels less. I said "$50 cash", and he said that beautiful four letter word all of us on this thread love to hear, "SOLD!!!" . My 40th B-Day is this upcoming Wednesday, so early Happy Birthday to me:beer:.

The other scores were the Stonco lights $4 for the pair, the 6" Bergman Tools adjustable

The light was a nice score for $8, and it works!!
