Hey guys, been lurking and reading all the great information here. I am trying to buy a used decent drill press for my shop at home. I stumbled upon a Buffalo 5 Speed Benchtop Drill Press within driving distance of Sioux City, IA, but it obviously is not one of the famed #15 or #18 of Buffalo Forge. I assume this is a Made in Taiwan edition of Buffalo Machine Tools, but I am confused for sure what this is. The model is SDM125S but a google search of this shows nothing, not one dang thing. Can anyone tell me anything about this? I have attached a picture. The guy wants 50$ so I figured even if its Taiwanese it may be worth it. Thanks

Jay

It looks exactly like the Guardian 12 speed floor model that I purchased in the early 80's, even the stamped name plate. It is made in Taiwan. $50 would be tops assuming everything is working; I would check the chuck for wobble. You will probably need new belts.

For $50 if it runs, it probably isn't a bad deal. I use to have a Buffalo horizontal bandsaw, same badge type and writing, Taiwan made from the 80's. It was actually pretty decent quality. I wonder what the rest of the drill press looks like? Floor or bench model? :dunno:

What do you define as decent? What will you use it for mostly? For $50 this might be a good deal if it suits your needs and the spindle runs true. Chucks can be replaced and a good one will cost you 3x the $50. A good chuck can go onto your next press if you ever decide to get one.

Man,, for $50.00 you would turn it down? There are literly thousands of those taiwan drill presses still in use after 30 years!!
The major problem with them all was the motors , some didn't last, others are still running. Bad quality control?
