Just got back from a Taylor tool sale Craigs List ad and I emptied out Rocky from the sales I"d hit over the last few days. Just picked up the Proto Pro SAE & metric wrench sets, the SK metric sockets, one Snap-on socket, SK 3/8dr and Williams 1/2dr ratchets and a Mitutoyo dial indicator. The other day I got the Snap-on dial torque wrench at a garage sale. The Heller file set, the stones and other Mitutoyo from an estate sale. I think I screwed the pooch on the Mitutoyo mic in the closed wooden box because when I bought it I just took a quick look and put it in the bag. Upon closer inspection it's missing the barrel... but the box is really nice.

What brand body hammer? Nice haul:rocker:!!

Just checked and it's MadeinChina brand! Also got some cool looking brushed stainless drawer pulls that I might try fitting onto my tool cart.

:+1: I was wondering the same thing.

O... I was not expecting that, Gee Rickster, those look like some nice tools to be throwing in the trash. :lol_hitti Those drawer pulls must be real fancy between the box and the soft paper wrapping. Good stuff.

Found these old Vacuum Grip snap ring pliers. 1951 Snap On.

Sweet. Those are very neat in that they spring closed compared to more common spring open? Or am I just kinematically challenged this evening? :headscrat

Yep. They spring closed. Pretty neat pliers. They probably won't see much use but will look good in the plier drawer nonetheless. :)

Some old stuff and a couple of whatizits.

Stanley tape measure from a 1951 promo event, some sort of anvil attachment for finer work?, an interesting pair of duckbill pliers, UTICA #31, that has a little pin for grip, an old push button counter , Wiss cutter, and vintage draw knife.

Anyone know what the duckbills are for?

Glenmore, the spiked anvil is meant to e driven into a chunk of wood for small bench work. Jewelers etc...

I thought the crown top logo was 70's era:dunno:? Maybe it ran through the late 50's into the 70's?

Late 50's until late 70's is correct and I think a few items MIGHT have snuck into the early 80's, sometimes with a Crown item in a box that has the later rectangular label.

Bought a collection of woodworking tools, formerly owned by a shipwright in Maine. I can tell they've been picked over and neglected but there were still a few prizes in there for me.

Stanley 93 Shoulder plane

Few other planes, yankee brace, spokeshave, etc.

Found this great little IR palm impact at a swap meet this past weekend. It was locked up but for 5 bucks I figured it was worth a shot. Broke it down cleaned everything up and didn't note any damage. Put back together n it works like a charm. I figure it just sat unused to to long and just needed some tlc

The model tag is missing but it looks like an older one to me. Great add to the box

It's always amazing to me how often "broken" tools just need a cleaning and lube...:thumbup::thumbup:

Here's my second stash from the weekend.. All items bought between a Kenosha, WI estate sale on the last day (1/2-price day) and a flea market in Wilmot, WI.

Rusty Berkroy R10 Slip-Roller (paid......$0.50... yes--that is not a typo)

...after a couple hours of disassembly and cleaning. Works perfect..

Old Herbrand Tappet wrench with "custom" engraving.. :)
Old Auto-Kit wrenches--will get used probably as handles on a project someday..
On the left is a brand new Proto 1/2" drive 1-1/8" socket.
Those are miscellaneous 1/2" drive P&C sockets and one mutt Craftsman socket.
Then there are old Snap-On square sockets for plugs, etc.
Next are some old Blackhawk 1/2" square "star" sockets. A very large Hanson brand new "easy-out" next to a solid copper rod or "punch" as it'll be used.

And here are some closed end wrenches that I bought. Also note the dual pressure/vacuum gauge (works) and the Scintilla voltage tester. Unfortunately--it's not working.. I tested it but it looks like someone may have attempted a repair earlier in it's life and it's not working properly.. The cutting torch is an old "Air Products" torch that I paid $.50 for as it was in the corner of the same basement where the slip-roller was found. It's in good shape as far as I can tell and the valves operate very nicely.

I'm pretty sure that PLOMB wrench has been "modified" at the one end..

GREAT Haul Hemi! and YOU **** SO BAD for the slip rolls!

THose auto wrenches, keep gathering them and put together a set even if mismatched for brand. use a #10 screw and a wing nut to keep them together and throw them in your vehicle. Those can be SO handy; I've used one of my sets twice now to "recover" a vise at estate/yard sales, as well as other minor uses.

Those are cool as they are sized like DOE wrenches and have alternating sizes,m so except for the largest and smallest, you always have one of each for the nut/bolt work.

hemifalcon, the Scintilla Electrapack is a transformer for model railroad trains.

Here is one for sale on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-ELE...937527?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item2a3328c9b7

You **** on the slip roll! You had a very good day all told!!!!!

Thank you--and I was able to identify the old Scintilla early on and thought I'd have a cool 12VDC tester for automotive stuff--but it's not working. So--I'll throw it out on Ebay and see if anyone will want it..

Where or what is the best place to find estate sales in your area?

I know most of the local operators and go directly to their web sites. But I also use Estatesales.net and estatesales.org and don't forget Craigslist garage sale listings of course. Google estate sales to find the best for your area.

I did OK but missed some desirable items because there was only one of me versus 18 other knowledgeable buyers going through the tools.
Pictures to follow when I get a few minutes. Missed the Dunlap box by about an arms length. Condition was not as good as pictures indicated but still doable.

Hemifalcon and T4, you guys really ****.

Craptain, hope it paned out well for you. Some of those prices looked a bit high IMHO. I was going to ask if you could pick me up a lathe chisel set. Never mind at those prices. Looks like some nice stuff though.

So here are some pics of what I found. I wanted a set of Turning chisels and got the set of 10 Craftsman for $40. The set of Robert Sorby chisels for $80 was a stupendous deal but they were all special cuts and few I would ever use, so I passed. I was also looking for boxes. And only came out with a small Craftsman carry box for $3, missing the tray inside but otherwise in nice condition. The Dunlap went quickly and was grabbed even as I was reaching for it. I got a motor for $5 just to keep a spare one around. Then I went out to the back of the house. Here I found a stand for repairing bicycles for $25 and a handful of pliers, pincers and a pipe wrench for $1 a piece. 2 no name Hammers rounded out my day. One hammer is a tack hammer and the other is a metal forming hammer. Of the pliers one is duck bill pliers made by Kraeuter and another by Bridgeport Hardware, with wire cutters on each side. Overall the bill came to $85 before a "little discount"

There was a lot of stuff that I would have liked but nowhere to put it. And being opening day not much negotiation. Tomorrow they negotiate but there will be little of value left.
