Hello just wanted to say this site is awesome. so i have a quick question. this is a 2 piece question. first off how much reverse torque do u really need to have in a 1/2 gun because more power does it mean break more bolts. also do i really need to have a gun that puts out more then 700ft lbs? i really don't like breaking bolts off i am afraid that if i buy one with that much power i will break them instead of the impact telling me i need to get the torch out. thx.

IMHO, you dont NEED tons of power, but its nice to have. 450ftlbs in reverse is definitely adequate for most work. the IR231c is a staple and an excellent relatively cheap, reliable gun that will serve you well.

I use the IR2135TI 780ft/lbs, you can adjust the power with a dial, depending on what you need, but it's a VERY nice gun. I paid around 300 but have since found them online for 250-260. SK also has some good ones, a friend of mine has one, not sure of the part number, but it's a pretty strong performer. Both guns have served over 3 years now without a complaint from either.

600 ft.lbs. in reverse is pretty much the minimum standard these days. It's kind of like computers: 800MHz will get the job done but 2.5GHz is faster.
It says 810 in reverse. If it's true, that's quite a bit.
The IR 2132g may not be the most powerful, but it is lightweight and QUIET. It is plenty stout enough for lug nuts and the like, but it won't compare to the 2135 series impact wrenches. I think it definitely has the power of a 231. Did I forget to mention that it is quiet, because it really is.

It depends on what you want the gun to do and how much money you want to invest. The classics such as the IR 231 and Chicago Pneumatic 734 still get the job done today as they did many years ago for not a whole lot of coin. The IR Titanium series is tough to beat for the combination of power and comfort for dragging it around all day. Whatever you go with, shop around because, there can be as much as a $150 price spread depending on the model you choose.

Don't know where in the USA the gun was made, but Snap On sure did their homework on this one. My dealer buys them in bulk and got me a great price on one...
