Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Your biggest issue is as voltage drops the amps go up so very hard on electrical components. ..start capacitors etc.

I'd change the recepticials first...not because I know about electrical. ..just because its easy and cheap and eliminates that as a possibility.

I have always said that there is a magical day in a teenage daughters life when a whole different girl gets off the school bus than what got on it that morning. For the next few years, it is GAME ON!

Found it! I would like to meet the electrician who did the finish work! An outlet had four wires going to it. Couldn't remedy that issue but the one that was loose and a pretty burnt blue color has been trimmed back and a suitable connection made so it won't happen again has been done, oh and they were those push lock sockets. Now it's all crimped and screwed!

Time to watch NASCAR, bummer there is no road racing on!

Thanks to those who made suggestions!

That's the safety sensor wire running through the bearing place attachment slot!
It's a good thing I just pulled the iDrive off completely. A new Liftmaster is in my future :D

My Dad was in town and helped my clean-up the garage and placed the new (to me) Hon file cabinets that I picked up from my company.

I feel your pain. I went through all of that last week with one wall that was dead. Turned out it was a backstabbed outlet in the ceiling for a garage door opener.

Assembled my HF tire changer, and pondered where / how to secure it. I think a pallet will do the trick.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Came home from work and had the 5 speed out in alone in 45min

Again "That boy's got a whole lot of quit in him"

And it is Halloween so after I mopped up the red atf with a white towel I couldn't resist coming in the house with the red soaked towels to my head calling for my daughter (13) and telling her to drive me to the ER then collapsing to the floor.

Finally got the 5 speed back in. Found out the quit line hurts his feelings so now I just get to say he takes a lot of brakes.

Finally finished my front garage wall exterior!

Pallet wouldn't do the trick for me. I used two sheets of 1/2" plywood and some 2x4 bracing on their side to frame the bottom and I still flex the stand (not the changer).

Hmmm. I plan to be using it for ATV and trailer tires, hopefully not anything too wild that I have to force that much. I also considered clamping the pallet to the wooden floor at the garage door threshold.

Gave my Harley a quick bath, pulled the battery, and put it in the shed for the winter.

Got the 5 6panel replacement doors together to replace 70s wood doors.bought slabs since i didnt want to mess with the good trim pieces. Well after ruining 3 slabs, returned the 2 good ones and bought 5 prehung ones. Back into the garage they will stay until my next day off. (2months from now)

Finally set anchors for my 8" grinder stand.
It was nice to use it and not have it walking half way across the floor.

Finished insulating the walls finally. chipped away at it over the last 2 weeks. 22 rolls later, and it's done! Starting to get cold though, so I'm thinking the ceiling will have to wait until the spring unfortunately :(

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

This past weekend:

Changed the oil in my F150.

Put up four more sections of peg board and hung some tools.

Fixed the plug on my oldest sons CB radio.

Cleaned up an old kerosene heater I had in the barn, and put it in the garage.

Charged my riding mower battery and brought the mower into the garage, need to set the valve clearance one night this week.

It may very well work for you then if the tires are soft walled and you use plenty of lube.

I changed a handful of tires so far... here's a small list - 205/55/15, 225/50/16 and whatever a '99 Grand Cherokee has on it (I think 15's).

This past weekend:

I installed a 10' 40,000 BTU Natural Gas radiant tube heater with thermostat. I just have to get the gas-fitter here this week to hook it up and then I'll be up and running! Just in time, -10 this morning brrrrrr.

Damn man, how big of cat do you have :wtf:

If you have taught your cat to do his business through the hole, what have you sealed the wood with inside?

Lol! We actually have several cats. There is a large Rubbermaid plastic tub inside the box with litter in it. For accidents, the inside is coated with plasti-dip.

Made a couple hammers. 2 lb brass and 5lb lead. Good for beating on rusty parts without damage to the part. Spindle, bearing housings, hubs etc

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

What model photo cell did you use? ease of installation??

Some $12 one I bought at Home Depot. Was on a card stock hanging on a peg board. I looked on Amazon and they're primarily the same.

It simply goes in series on the circuit, before the lights, controlling hot. It gets an incoming hot, outgoing hot (when dark outside) and neutral (won't work without a neutral).

I put a switch before the photo cell so I can turn them off entirely if needed.

Nice job, I love home made tools. Shows ingenuity:thumbup:. Can you give some details on the lead hammer? I assume you cast it out of...? How did you get the through hole for the handle?

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

Lead hammer was pretty easy.
Too a thick 2.25 id cardboard tube and cut it to the length I wanted (about 3"). Cut a hole in it the size and shape of the handle in the center of the tube. Secured it in place with aluminum tape. Made sure everything was sealed and secure. Double taped it again with aluminum tape just to be sure. Melted the lead in a small crucible with a torch. I poured the lead very slowly. Let it cool. Cut off the extra handle above the new head, drove in wedges and Bob's your uncle.
Brass hammer is made from an old brass gear that I cut the damaged cogs from and pressed it on to a piece of 3/4" od steel tube.
The other side of the brass hammer will be a hyde hammer once I round up some scraps of thick leather and fab up a ring to hold it all together. I used hyde hammers a lot when I was in college working in a machine shop. Great for persuading as stubborn tool or holder loose with out damaging it.
thanks for the compliment.
