5/8--m10x1.25 arbor adaptor?

I screwed up... I bought a lot of wire wheels for a good price and well i screwed up and didn't notice they had m10x1.25 arbors and not the typical 5/8. I've done some searching and haven't found any adaptors, anybody know of somebody that makes one?

I'm sure you can find one at Fastenal, Grainger or the like.

Hmm, since you're stepping 5/8" down you're gonna have to have your wire wheel (is it a wire cup brush?) below the spindle of your grinder, making for a bit more leverage. If it's a wire wheel you're probably ok, if it's a wire cup brush I probably wouldn't do it.....

Is there a hex to chuck up on and enough meat to drill it out and re-tap to 5/8-11?

Obviously, no, I'm not aware of an adapter and all I could do is search MSC, etc, which I'm sure you've already done too.

Ah your edit got it. I was gonna ask if I was wrong or the pic was wrong, but he wants to go the other way...............hmm, that kinda sounds bad ("not that there's anything wrong with that")

I made an adapter like the Milwaukee pictured once by just chucking up some 5/8-11 and drilling and tapping to 3/8-24 for one of those little right angle pneumatic sanders.....but again, no help here.

Weiler offers the same adapter that was posted, but as noted, it goes in the opposite direction than the OP needs. I'm not aware of anyone that supplies the adapter that you are looking for. You may need to machine your own, if possible.

It may be easier to drill and tap the wire cups to fit your arbor.

I'm pretty sure I saw those adapters at Home Depot above the 7"-9" grinders with the backing plates and sanding discs.

BTDTNA, this brings back the memories. Quite a while ago someone gave me a box of brand new cup wire brushes. Really nice brushes ($), downside is that they had a smaller, goofy thread than the common 4.5" dewalt grinder, 3/8-24 IIRC. I like you needed a large female to smaller male adapter. Searched high and low and could only find smaller female to larger male adapters. Called every place in town "do you have a 5/8-11 to 3/8-24?", sure we do come on down. I'd get there and they had the smaller female to larger male but not what I needed.

Figured no problem I fired up the lathe and made one. Well, lets just say there is a reason why they don't make them. It wasn't till I was on my 3rd brush leaning into it, that smaller male portion sheared straight off the larger female portion and yes I did radius the corner causing the wheel to go dancing down the driveway.

Now ~8 years and a few strength of materials classes later, I realized that was not one the better ideas I had, but still not the worst by far.

Moral of the story.... either buy the proper grinder for those wheels or sell them and purchase the proper wheels. I chose the latter as a 3/8-24 grinder did not seem cost effective. YMMV.

3/8-24 is just what would be termed a 4" grinder vs a 4.5" grinder and they're not hard to come by and generally inexpensive as they're smaller which also means smaller body and good for some applications. Not a terrible thing to have............but none of that helps the OP if he truly needs M10.

My Top Cat 4" pnuematic angle grinder is of course 3/8-24 and one of my favorite air tools.

Just buy a cheapo grinder with the correct thread and make it your dedicated wire wheeler. Odds are the cheap grinder will last about as long as your stash of wheels holds out, then throw the thing in the scrap bin and forget you ever had such a problem.

Who likes haveing to change back and forth between a wire wheel and a grinding disc anyway?

Yea, the only thing I could find in 3/8-24 was pneumatic grinders and I really didn't want a pneumatic grinder, back then I didn't have a very good compressor. The cups were really aggressive twisted so I probably wouldn't have had much use for them anyways. O well, I made some guy really happy that had a grinder and needed them. Live and learn I suppose.

To my knowledge, from memory so this very well could be wrong, but IIRC

4.5" electric grinder --> 5/8-11 male threads
4" electric grinder --> M10 male threads
4" pneumatic grinders --> 3/8-24 male threads

Thanks for the replies. They are in fact M10s. I guess I will try to make something when I get some time as I can't find a CHEAP (as in HF cheap) grinder with an M10 spindle. If not anybody want 30 wire wheels

Mitch, look for super cheap, possibly off brand electric 4" grinder. Will probably be fine for wire wheels. I see northern tool has a few. Maybe even check places like Walmart and Meijer for brands like Skil, B&D, Ryobi.
