I've been waiting for that Porter Cable 20V impact driver to go on sale for many months now. Best price I ever saw was Lowes for a few days @$99. $79 for a charger, the impact driver, and 2 batteries is a steal!
The 34 piece polished Kobalt wrench set is going to be only $50. COO is China. No mention of any kind of flank drive copycat technology, so that's disappointing. Anyone have experience with these or any other Chinese Kobalt wrenches?

FYI, the regular kit is not the one that's on sale. Lowes added a new PC 20V impact to their catalog - one with (1) battery and a slower 3-hour charger.

Kobalt tools bought on BF do no have the lifetime warranty. They don't have the serial number on them like the others do.

i agree with that. they have fucked me over couple of times.
So I went by Lowe's today and found the wrench display. The COO on the back is absolutely China, it is not Taiwan. They still look decent...but they're in a big blister pack, so I couldn't even hold one or play with it with the fasteners in the hardware department. The package does say that they have the warranty (duh).

no, its not strong enough to hack that kind of torque.
plus a 3/8 to hex 1/4 adapter wont with stand that shear torque either.

Remember when Black Friday was Black Friday? When retailers actually put good things on sale. This stuff is just an odd collection of things that have been sitting on the shelf for too long. Not that I had high expectations...especially with tools.

It puts out 120 FT-lbs of torque according to the specs (1,450 in-lbs), so it MIGHT be able to remove lug nuts on smaller passenger vehicles. Having used it before too, I can attest that it is a VERY powerful impact, even more so for the size of it. However, it impacts the wrong way (in, not sideways).
In the end, just get the right tool....
Well, I think I will put 10-14mm sockets and use it under the hood.
Also got a dash to remove I think this might be a time saver for $80

Yep. Not sure why each year it gets worse and worse. seems like they are using black Friday just to get rid of the junk.

That shelving is good stuff. The particle board shelves will sag if there is any moisture present, but some 3x 1/2 slats under fix that.

Impact drivers impact forward to help drive in screws and lugs. Impact wrenches impacts sideways to help break free a fastener.
If you are interested, amazon has the same impact with 2 batteries and the 40 minute charger (not the 3 hour and 1 battery lowes has for $80) for $110

-These wrenches do have pretty rounded contact areas in the box, so they're flank-drive type.
-The smaller non-BF wrench sets were all Taiwan.
-The 20 pc screwdriver set they have a BF display for is one of those "assembled in US from foreign materials" deals...so basically Chinese tools handled by Americans, I guess.
I'm kind of torn here. I really need a decent wrench set and I'm poor, but I like to stick to at least Taiwanese manufacturers...

The more powerful impact wrenches would be more appropriate, but sometimes people have success with the weaker impact drivers. Though, I've wondered if this might be because the lugnuts were not previously tightened all the way, or maybe they were recently torqued.
Look for the hex socket adapters that state "Impact" on the package.
Every actual price tag says $99. The $49.99 is on a mat covering the shelf immediately above the wrench sets.
I'm pretty sure that the mat wasn't supposed to be put out yet. I'm sure I could use it as an argument for getting the lower price right now, but I'm having trouble pulling the trigger with them being from China.

The Taiwan kobalt wrenchs i have seen are far better then HF wrenchs. Just basing off of looks. I havent used either. I had a family member that had some HF wrenches (like the link posted) and they where junk.
Edit- just noticed those are polished ones. The wrenches a family member had where not so im not sure if they are diff in quality.

I don't buy Pittsburgh tools. Almost all Pittsburgh stuff I've had has ended up in the trash because it was too poorly made to do the job. Pittsburgh Pro is a different matter; it's usually at Craftsman's level. This is probably why I prefer Taiwan to China so much; Pittsburgh is China, Pittsburgh Pro is Taiwan.
Unfortunately, Harbor Freight has the most infuriating wrench sets...there's always something missing that shouldn't be, like how half of the sets pretend that 15mm doesn't exist.
I think I'm going to do some ebay searching for a while. If only the Kobalts had been the normal Taiwan or at least been outside the plastic so that I could check quality...
