I picked up this Cman toolbox today for $8.60.
Was it a good deal???
No rust all the brown you see wipes off with your finger. Just 40 year old garage dust and grime.

Random price, but I'd be happy with that. Is that a tool box or a socket set box? Is there a tray in it?

So ........ I've been thinking about getting a bandsaw for a while now. But wasn't really sure what I wanted to look for. This week I started to look at pictures to see if I wanted to look for an Atlas or a King Seeley. Fate decided for me.

The first item that caught my eye at the barn sale today was a bandsaw hiding under a set of shelves. BINGO ! :rocker:

I asked how much, he countered with IDK, what do you think (I hate starting first). I wanted to say 25, but he seemed so sad to see people hauling his stuff away, I uped it to $40. Done, Paid, and hauled to the truck ! Went back in for more. (now you know why I was exited about the motor in the first post)

Craftsman/King Seeley 12" Band Saw w/3-step pulley
mod# 103.0103
judging by the gray paint, I'm guessing mid-to-late 40's.

The minute I got home I went to OWWM to download the manual. It will need an overhaul before I can use it, and I'll need to find the right stand. But if I can get it to track the blade right when I'm done, I'll be happy. Right now I just want to get rid of the mouse mummy's stuck inside the support post. eeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwww ! :willy_nil

Nice scores Jake! I have either the same or a similar band saw. I used a "newer" damaged Craftsman roller (the kind with the ability to re-arrange the drawers) and moved all the drawers to the bottom, mounted a shelf above the top drawer, and added a plywood top to the box.

I mounted the motor in the new top cavity (used a door hinge and gravity for tensioning the belt) and it worked great! Drawer storage for related/woodworking tools as well.

Dunlap was sears "economy" brand even for motors, and ran concurrently with King Sealey DP's so it was likely bought at the same time. the DP's could be bought with or without motors as well.

Is the DP column 2-3/4" or smaller? looks smaller to me so likely a model 80.

Watchmakers tools and lathe, maybe a jeweler's anvil or vise.

2/4 ain't bad

Fine woodworking chisels, tiny tools, expensive clamps, complete (new) brass timesets.

Unfortunately none of that.

Small lathe, precision DP, Bergeon tools, swiss files/pliers/etc, ultrasonic cleaners, precision hammers, jewelers screwdrivers, etc.

Jewelers screwdrivers made in china, no precision tools except a couple inexpensive General calipers.

Need more pics!!

This^^ What model is that box?

All in all a good score, no specialty tools though. L-R Two boxes of heat shrink in various sizes, almost full gallon of Gunk, wd-40, Hardwood pieces, Starrett 5" machinist vise, SK box with square sockets(owners family took the ratchet and standard sockets ) Drill Doctor 750X, Foredom R-BB flex shaft, China square, Petersen vise grips, Screwball, jewelers hammer, reamer, Craftsman miter gage, ball peen, crown top impact, tap holder, Vanadium side cutters, 13lb anvil, angle vise, NOS Petersen vise grips in box with warranty paper and a real cool cantilever box! The cool guy working the shop part of the estate sale mentioned that the family had came by with friends and picked over the good things during the week, AFTER signing the contract with the estate service to sale contents. **** move, cut the estate people out of some profits and me out of some good tools....

What make is the angle vise? (pics please!) The small anvil looks a lot like a series that HF sold for a while maybe 10 years ago or so.

Nice haul!

Still a decent haul at the clockmakers sale there, 94.

Uniballer and Wildwood college finds too.

Stopped at an estate sale this morning. As i was third to arrive at the toolroom & from the looks of what was there I'd say tools and garage items were picked over by the family or held back by the owner. i.e. too much emptyness for the storage that was there. I picked up some decent vise-grips and a like new BD angle grinder with two new discs.

I don't know why I have so much trouble attaching photos. I always get "invalid file" or "attachment failed to upload"

Anyway I picked up a (guessing mid 70's era) Craftsman Sabre Saw complete in the box with owners manual and about 15 NOS metal and wood blades.

A table router in the box and owners manual and never been used table extensions. The owners manual for the Black and Decker motor was in the box as well. All aluminum table. The only plastic was the clear bit guards.

Craftsman professional (again guessing mid 70's era) smooth wood Plane in the box with owners manual.

5 NOS Craftsman socket rails. 2 were brass colored with blue handles 1/4" and 3/8" metric rails.
The other 3 were silver colored with grey handles two 1/4 sae and one 3/8 sae.

3 welding books. Including a 2 inch thick guide to Arc welding by Lincoln. The other two books were more like guides books and guide tables for different welding rod for different thicknesses and metals.

Thanks, the angle vise and anvil are both unmarked, I'm assuming overseas. 2.5" jaws on the vise, 11" long anvil.

Thanks man! Good score on the vise grips.

Are they double square sockets or 4 pt sockets?

double square, knurled 1/4" drive 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8

Those who check out the "old drill press" thread have seen this already. Today I procured a 1950s Delta Homecraft 11-110. the guy only wanted $30 for it, and I thought that was fair. Runs well, but needs some work. Motor pulley has a bite take out of it, and it's incorrect for this machine. Someone tried to install an inline switch and left some copper exposed. But no rust.

I am looking for a standard bench top base, the correct engine pulley, and a chuck key. At some point I will refinish the whole thing and install a power switch.

nine4gmc - Nice scores. Also, nice dog/couch.
Thanks man!

Nice pile!! How were the prices? That Starrett vise looks to be like new.

Prices were great, I spent $90 yesterday and realized I forgot the foot pedal for the Foredom so we went back this morning and got it along with all this for $30, no charge for the foot pedal. :willy_nil Badger and Paashe airbrush kits, NOS airbrush parts, two complete sets of Craftsman corner clamps, Swiss made mini files.

I've got the same saw, unfortunately my upper wheel adjuster is snapped and I've never gotten around to fixing it.

NINE4GMC nice score I am really digging that anvil. Heres my find this week end they are all Craftsman except for the sockets on the rail those are Sears brand got it all for $25. I also got some other things like sand paper for $1 dollar a package, the packages looked new so stupid me didn't look inside, as it turned out each package only had one or two sheets of sand paper in them I ended up buying about 4 packs.

Not much in the way of sales near me this weekend, so I went back to the estate sale from wednesday just to see what was left. Still a lot of trash, but I did find a few pieces. I coughed up another $5.

- a plastic "made in USA" drill bit holder w/bits. It says "TROPHY" on it and has slots to hang it on the wall.
- v-groove steel block
- Brown & Sharpe depth gauge
- J. W. Chapman 1/4" ratcheting bit driver
- Taiwan made chain grip (will do until a USA made one comes along)
- 3/8" socket rail (for spares)
- metal stool (legs are rusted, once free the height will adjust)

I'm also waiting on a call back on a convenience store Coca Cola shelf unit for 2-litre bottles. They were using to sell the glassware, and I didn't want to make them unload it. If it doesn't sell, they'll call me. They were asking $30, but I'm hoping to get it for 10 or 15.

Ya'll have been having a good day!!

Today I went to 2 garage sales, the first one I picked up a 15' trampoline with safety net for the girls for $60. She also had these tools for sale, I ended up with it all for $15 minus the socket racks as I got those at sears yesterday for $6 a pack. I plan to remove my sockets from the plastic tote and put it in a metal box I got floating around in the garage.

img_0775.jpg

Pair of Channel lock, drill bit, and KD USA torx driver and a usa c clamp.
img_0776.jpg

img_0777.jpg

Some Husky hex socket, 1/4" driver, 3/8" rachet, a Diamond adjustable wrench, and cheap plastic putty knife
img_0778.jpg

img_0779.jpg

The rachet is a sears taiwan made, but the short extension is a SK, and the long extension and sockets are blackhawk USA
img_0780.jpg

And then the Maglite, 3 D

img_0781.jpg

Not a bad haul for $15.

Wives -- who can predict?
So I went to a garage sale and found these neat small barn lights. They're only 10" across vs the 16 inchers I recently renovated, but I have a few dark corners I can use them in. So... anticipating the complaints about spending even more money, I bought the whole lot - seven of them. Now, these are much nicer than the last ones, since they have porcelain sockets with pull chains, and flanges ready made to mount on octagon boxes. I figured with the prices I've seen some going for on feeBay, I could sell 3 or four of them, keep the rest and come out even.
So, I brought them home and told her what I had in mind. NO! she said. "I really like those green porcelain shades. We can find a place for them all!!"
Go figure. :dunno:

Bob, get used to it. SWMBO and I have been together for 35 years, I ask her all the time: "Do you like this? How about that?"

I'm still lucky if I get it right more than about 50% of the time... :dunno:

Pickings are slim around here lately, but I managed to find a few sales today:
First stop, estate sale out of the way enough that I hoped I had a shot at the good stuff. Spent $20:

"American LaFrance" badge, Easydriver in its package, Cobra CB, 2 X Petersen Vise Grips, 'Eagle Claw' wrench, Plomb 1421 body hammer, orange SO screwdriver, long SK bit driver, Ford wrench, Plomb WF 1/2" drive speeder, no-name double-ended socket wrench.

Stop 2 said "tools" in the ad, but they didn't have many. Didn't have much of anything, really. Spent $1.50:

3 books, on Blacksmithing, Metalworker's reference, and Briggs n Stratton small engine repair.

Stop 3, another estate sale on half-off day. Spent $42, but that included an East German Praktica camera and lens that isn't shown:

Vintage Koss headphones, Technical Writing reference/textbook (my current profession), 1957 mechanical drawing book, P&C flat screwdriver, Proto Professional Phillips, 2 Vaco cushion-grip screwdrivers, and Wizard pliers. No, not Western Auto Wizard:

By the Wakefield Wrench Company, AA entry on Wakefield

Holy **** I bought stuff today! Well, wasn't planning to, but... yea. No "you ****" deals, but, not too too shabby.

1st stop, flea market near my work... I work every other Saturday and holy **** was I dead today, so took an early lunch. Got like 7 tables in when I found a sea of sockets and wrenches. Asked the guy how much he wanted per socket "$1 for 3/8's, $2 for 1/2", $3 for 3/4, blah blah blah..." so I ask him what if I bought like 30 things, and he told me he'd give me a good discount.

So... 43 items for $30 wasn't too bad, maybe I've been spoiled by the guy who sells them to me $.25 each, but got a good amount of ones for my collections.

The second one down, wtf is that? Doesn't look like it was cut or ground down...
6 =V= wrenches, 1 funky CMan logo one, a Superrench, and an SK 1/4" breaker bar.

All but 1 deep are =V=

5 40's SK sockets (1/2 polished, 1/2 satin), and 1 that predates those.

5 1/2+1/2 polished/satin Bonney sockets, and 1 that predates those

8 CMan BE's

an Armstrong and a older CMan Circle U? Gotta research that one...

Then the other day, the guy who back in the beginning of summer that I got that carpenters Cman Crown logo box from called me up saying that he had more stuff to move on. So swung over to his place after work:

2 Braces, and Eggbeater drill, an old Hay hook, few different cutters, a 1/2" wide Stanley plane, a Yankee North Bro's driver...

A brace bit set, a hex socket set and a wrench set.

The bit set is an old old Irwin set! Score!

And is this the creator of ALL of these random "Drop Forged" wrenches floating around everywhere?

Hey rick, post a close up pic of the red handle tool with curved handle if you can. I think it's a jacket slitter for phone cable, if so I am probably interested in it!
