I potentially have access to a lift similar to one of these; http://ru-ww.bosch-automotive.com/w...l_two_post_lifts/vle_2130_f/vle_2130_2130_f_1

I have a few questions, which I cannot find anything about online. I get the feeling these aren't popular in the states. The lift I am looking at has the base plate thing with the arms on it to make it "self supporting". What the heck does self supporting mean?

Would it be possible to install without the "self supporting" part? The lift pads are pretty high when it's at its lowest point.

Does anyone have any experience with this particular type of lift?

It's not that exact lift, this one is actually 3 phase. Still not ideal but doable. I edited my initial post. Sorry I wasn't clear enough.

Self supporting would suggest that it's got a wider footprint .. a good thing where you're installing it on weaker concrete. Fasteners listed in the accessories are only M12 as opposed to M16.

Basically an Archimedes screw style lift. Primitive, and pretty idiot proof. I like it.

Is this the F version? It requires 5.5 inches of concrete. The PDF might help you, link is on their page.

There is a spec for the quality of the concrete too in the documents, and it may be that their (typical) concrete is not as strong as what you have. Or maybe they are just very conservative.

Everything I have ever owned that was made by Bosch was a quality product. Never suspected they were into auto lifts.

No doubt some are thinner but ever since I can remember my Dad and Grandad also talked about 6" of concrete beign the norm so that's what I asked for and my builder agreed.

Do you guys have different "grades" of concrete like we do over here?
