The looks like the garage sale Gods are smiling on everyone!

Today was horrible for garage sales here. Not due to lack of. I was saddled with children and my wife's car. There was one out in the boonies I wanted to go to that was about 50 miles away. It had been a helicopter mechanics and they wanted all the sheds cleared out. Never made it.

I did make a detour after dumping off the wife to a rumored sale. Bad signage. One small sign in the yard that said sale in back. They were cleaning out everything in this guys garage. Left the kids in the car with a bowl of water and the windows cracked and went inside. Everything was crazy cheap. I had to pass up a lot of stuff because I couldn't leave the car for long. Here's what I got for $20.

Note the sander on the stubby bench. It was $5 with the motor. He loaned me a saw to hack off the legs. It wouldn't fit in the car otherwise. That's why I passed up an old SO roll around full of stuff. Stupid car.

That box, those vise grips, is that a mini (all metal) craftsman ball peen hammer? Excuse me for a few minutes.   YOU ****.

The mini hammer is unmarked :dunno:

You get a big fat YOU **** for that haul!!

NINE4GMC nice score I am really digging that anvil. Heres my find this week end they are all Craftsman except for the sockets on the rail those are Sears brand got it all for $25. I also got some other things like sand paper for $1 dollar a package, the packages looked new so stupid me didn't look inside, as it turned out each package only had one or two sheets of sand paper in them I ended up buying about 4 packs.

I want a bigger one but who doesn't :lol_hitti

Not much in the way of sales near me this weekend, so I went back to the estate sale from wednesday just to see what was left. Still a lot of trash, but I did find a few pieces. I coughed up another $5.

Any makers marks no the v-block?

The looks like the garage sale Gods are smiling on everyone!

Yes, looks like there was some good scores by all

When I can't take an item with me, I ask if it's possible to leave a deposit or something to hold it until I can return in my truck. ;)

This afternoon, I went to the monthly trade day(small outdoor flea market gathering) where I snagged the Snap On chest last month, this time came up empty. To try and salvage the trip(30 mins), we hit a garage moving sale where I got these three boxes with contents for $15. Lots of **** went in the scrap bin already, this is what I'll keep or sell. Crown top box, Kennedy 1018 cantilever, unknown old school with cool bottom corner box. Armstrong sockets, Blackhawk 1/4 ratchet and some sockets, misc sockets, Blackhawk t bar, punches, Craftsman allens, doe wrenches and magnetic socket inserts, Williams adjustable, 3 lb ball peen head, Armstrong wrenches, Proto yellow handle flat blade, misc **** for my garage sale box fillers.

I'm digging the cantilever box nine:thumbup:. What brand? I think I see Kennedy in the corner, but my eyesight has started to challenge me in recent times.

Any makers marks no the v-block?

The v-block measures 1 1/4"sq x 1 5/8"long.
Under a washed out sticker it was stamped :

B&S MFG. CO.__________750-A
PROV.R.I.U.S.A.

On the other side it was stamped ;

12________[then engraved] ML-3894

I'm so glad we have this thread since I haven't found anything in three weeks. It's almost as good as finding stuff myself.

OK a got a few things yesterday and today. It was looking dismal after the first few stops today, and getting skunked at the collage FM...:headscrat

Fridays one stop: A dog anchor and chain (I use these for guy line anchors for tarps up camping) and an older (Longish) "C" craftsman 6" adjustable. $2 for both.

attachment.php

Today, I finally broke the ice at a sort of an Estate sale, really they were simply emptying a house... I found a tool box and got these:

attachment.php

SO TorqOmeter Lb-in torque wrench; 3/8" drive with a Thorsen 1/2" adapter, New Britain DOE, Combos (Sm to large) in SO 9/16, Craftsman (20mm) and Indestro in 1-1/4", Large GreenField Tap handle, and a decent pop riveter.

and later, on a work bench under two other boxes, I found this box...

attachment.php

And this was inside.... :bounce: Three dial indicators, and a bunch of stuff for setting them up on mag bases (Which I already have a number of)

attachment.php

Everything from the estate sale was $7! :pimpflash

Another Yard sale: New in Package Bit set (Taiwan), Utica diags, adn a can of Brasso. (never tried the stuff so we will see how it stacks up...) $2 all

attachment.php

Last score for the day, SWMBO and I went to look at a mirror we saw for one late posting CL ad, and hit a few more on the way home, and I picked up these roe $4. A 6" Brinks and Cotton "C" clamp, and there was a baggie of "stuff" that had these handles, I was after the crystal ones.. I need to dig up some threaded rod to assemble them:

attachment.php

And the clamp after clean up: I think this is my second Brinks and Cotton, I have a small one marked "B&C" :dunno:

I thought about asking them to hold it for me, 94. There were a number of people running the sale plus a couple of groups making random piles and yelling for prices. It's not that I wouldn't trust them, I just don't think they could have kept track of it. You could have rolled out of there with it and I don't think they would have noticed. Nice folks, just not organized. (By the way, I did a trial run on the lathe. No chatter. Sweet!)

Your spot on about the grinder, Outlaw. My pile was $15 and I asked if he would make it an even $20 with the grinder. It looks brand new. The vice is a swivel base Stanley. Seems like folks are having some luck finding these lately.

Outlaw,I don't know what you paid for the dial indicators, But score!

In my experience Brasso is good for roughing out stuff that has an easily wiped surface. Its when it gets into cracks or fine details on stuff that its a pain. It leaves behind kind of a chalky residue and can be corrosive if you don't get it all after a long period of time.

Thanks, the angle vise and anvil are both unmarked, I'm assuming overseas. 2.5" jaws on the vise, 11" long anvil.
pic00478.jpg

Thanks man! Good score on the vise grips.

double square, knurled 1/4" drive 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8

I like that socket box, I just picked up some enamel paint that matches the color of the SK boxes, only it don't have the texture of it. :(

I'm picking up a paint gun and a clean hose tomorrow to paint the box with, so we will see how it goes.

The automotive custom guys use standard black wrinkle texture paint on things, then top coat them with light color coats of the color they want it to be. The parts end up looking great, you may try that if you want to match the texture as well.

Thanks for the heads up Sack!

Well I paid 7 bucks for everything, so if the other tools were $1 each, then the box of indicators was free! :D

Funny you say that cause I was thinking of the hammered paint I got in the cabinet but wanted to test it out first to make sure the paint will be compatible

A little UK action now....

We don't get many garage/yard sales in the UK  but we do love a good car-boot sale/flea-market event!

Stopped at a local one this morning and spent an hour and £10 collecting things that caught my eye amongst the piles of baby clothes and fake football tops.

View media item 35049An adjustable Spanner stamped "Ford" for £1

View media item 35051A really nicely detailed folding metal rule for £1

View media item 35052Yet another £1 LED torch, but you can never have too many right?...right?

View media item 35050An almost complete impact set, my father has had this type for years so was worth £5.

And finally the thingy-de-la-resistance...
View media item 35055A Dinky toy Armoured car £3

Doesn't really compete with the hauls you folks manage every weekend but fun nevertheless.

Its been a busy past few weeks and i've not been able to get to many estate sales due to work and schedule conflicts.

This pile of stuff was from a CL ad about a vise, I didn't buy it, and a friend that found a vise for me.

The crank tools on the left are Thread Kit Heli coil insert production tools. I didn't know what they were but took a gamble and did okay for 20.00 I have a box of brand new Heli Coil taps laying around to make a kit with and sell it soon:beer:

The NPT pipe taps are from the same guy. THe Mitutoyo feeler gauge was from a garage sale i saw on the way home. The guy usually has lots of tools and thats all i could find in his piles yesterday. He refused my offer of a dollar and insisted i take it, so i left him a 6 pack on his doorstep in the evening.

THe Japanese made Craftsman vise, which is obviously beat to hell and back:lol:, is from a friend. I picked up something for him in my truck and he gave me a great deal on that basket-case of a vise:lol_hitti

Doesn't look photographic to me, and I was a pro back in the film days. I'm guessing maybe a push drill of some sort? Call it a Kraut Drill, since by the name, it sure isn't a Yankee Drill:lol_hitti

I think I bought that same impact set back in the early 80's. Mine was labeled "Buffalo", but must have been made in the same factory. It's still in one of my toolboxes somewhere.

....... and yea, we get the piles of dirty baby clothes and fake sports shirts as well. I guess some things are universal. :lol_hitti

Pretty much nail on the head, although round my way, there are a lot of "professional" car booters, there is pretty much one on everyday of the week in the summer!

Hmm, we'd call that a Flea Market, although the term Car Boot Sale makes a lot more sense.

WOW! That is so foreign to me/us. Seems like such a PITA, not to mention, bigger items get left at home probably, and then little odds and ends might get left behind b/c the seller doesn't think they are worth selling.

Here, at a yard sale, everything is right out front, so people will bring everything out b/c it is only 20 feet. And if not, you can usually at least talk nice and get yourself in the garage.

EDIT: and for the most part, your vehicles are smaller than ours...meaning less room to pack stuff in.
