GearWrench Origin?

I've been reading up on GearWrenches and how at some point they switched from being made in Taiwan to China. I have a full set of wrenches from them that I got several years back (not sure exactly when) and was curious as to where they were made.

I read about the letter stamp the wrenches have that dictates where they were made. Some of my wrenches are stamped with an E and others with an I (two different sets).

Where did my wrenches come from?

I don't think I have a single GW tool that's marked with COO. Most of them came out of packages claiming Taiwan.
That may be. I have an old one with Taiwan on it, but no part#. My newer ones have no COO, but packaging states China. Bought them new in late 2011.

I don't think this is accurate.

Few GW items have a COO stamp. I've looked at and owned a good number of GW tools. There is no correlation between a lack of COO stamp and China\Taiwan.

Most of the ones I've owned we're made in Taiwan and did not have a COO stamp.
Did you notice #8.

I had already acknowledged my mistake. I had expected COO to be dropped from the wrenches themselves only after manufacturing moved to China.

Now does GW actually still make any of their ratcheting wrenches in Taiwan?

Or is production all now in China?

If now all in China, when did the transition occur?

At least I think this is part of what the OP is asking.

I just bought Gearwrench's #80314 47pc 1/4" drive SAE/Metric 6 pt socket set...:drool::drool:

COO---Taiwan...used to be Formosa/only old farts, like me, remember that...

Really nice for the price...

3/8 and 1/2 will be next...:rocker:
