Tried searching, too much info too spread out. Looking into putting an opener on a 12x12 insulated door. I don't know if there is any to stay away from.

I've had LiftMaster in my current and previous homes with NO issues. 13 years of non-commerical use.

I agree with Liftmaster, my 12 X 12 insulated I put a Liftmast commercial duty open on it and have never regretted it.

I have all LiftMaster belt drives and love them, much better quality than the Craftsman units I used to have.

I definitely recommend Liftmaster products. However, the only residential type opener that is suitable is the 8500 RJO. It is good for up to 14' high. Residential trolley type openers are only good for up to 10' high. It is also the only real option for a jackshaft opener. Commercial jackshaft operators are not well suited to standard lift doors (unless you have high lift, which you didn't note). The other option would be the Liftmaster ATS. It is a light duty commercial operator good for up to 14' high. Either that or the 8500 would be my recommendation.

What systems is it not compatible with? First I am hearing of this. Is it that they are not compatible or difficult to program with the rolling code technology?

The new security + 2.0 (new yellow button) is only partly compatible with homelink systems... In other words sometimes you need basically an external receiver to allow it to still work with homelink.

Liftmaster is chamberlain which is craftsman... Only difference between a liftmaster and a chamberlain or craftsman is rail design - 1pc dealer rail vs 5pc snap together rail...

I bought two top of the line Genies twelve years ago and both of them failed. The first was just the lighting circuit and the second died completely. They did last twelve years though.
I ended up with two top of the line Liftmasters at HD on sale for 130 each last month. I really like them. So quite and lots of little features I like.

So the most recent Liftmasters still don't work with home link? How can a $250+ garage door opener not work with a factory installed door opener in all most all vehicles in the last five - ten years?!?! I was really leaning toward the Liftmaster 8500 but if they can mess that up, what else?

What's the difference between standard and high lift doors? The door is 12' insulated panel in a 16' wall.

I believe in this reference a high lift door is one that stays vertical and does not go horizontal in the open position...

Liftmaster 3800 or 8500, works like no other. I will have a very hard time buying anything else, no more pressure on the center panels, trying to support around windows if that applies, no more pulling the carriage bolts through, no more figuring out the opener arm angles, no longer in the way if you go with a lift, I can't think of any reasons not to have one, has options to use with a smartphone, even away from home to monitor or open or close the door for kids, or servicemen, whoever.../ also can alert you if someone-something has gone through the safety lights or opened the door. Has timing options for closing door automaticly, I like the wall controller with the time and temp. Super quiet and smooth, nice power remote track lock. And customer service is very helpful if needed, either on the phone or web.

Because until liftmaster came out with security+2.0 - they were all single frequency - the new one is tri-band... Meaning it's transmitting on 3 bands simultaneously...

A few cars do support it natively (but you can be assured - they're '14s or newer model years) but older ones probably wont.

I just installed the liftmaster 8500 on my 18'x8' wind load door. This thing is super quiet, went in easy (2 hours), and works great. Cheapest place I found was amazon. No track in the middle of your garage, has a auto deadbolt, remote light that can go anywhere and an auto close feature that will shut the door after a set time if you want.

I also bought the internet gateway that allows you to check door status, open/close door from your phone/computer for $35. You can also buy plugs for turning lights on/off and retrofit any chamberland door after '96 to your phone.

It does have the new rolling codes so your built in openers on cars will not work without a repeater. It comes with 1 remote. If you have home link the repeater is $40 or if you have Ford/Chevy it is through lear for $50.
