Re: What did you do in your garage today?

Turned this from a branch that I pruned from my neighbor's apricot tree last year. It's her 50th birhtday tomorrow and it's all I could come up with. Hopefully she'll like it.

Yes, I had permission to prune the tree.

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

After a 3 day 4 wheelin trip, help my buddy change out his front ring and pinion and an axle shaft.

took me about 5 tries, not too bad for a novice

Pretty costly couple of days, but would of been more if we didn't do the labor ourselves

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

It was rainy and dark before I got down there so I didn't do much. The passenger side rear tire wouldn't take air. It would let air out but none of my three chucks would inflate the tire. So I did the five minute task of jacking it up all for the ten second job of taking the valve core out and screwing a new one in. Also gave me a chance to check both rear wheel bearings for play while it was up in the air. Aired all 4 tires up for winter and made sure the wife's car and my truck had proper air pressure.

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

not what I wanted to with the torrential storms we had, stayed in the house with radio on, expecting to have to take a dive I did go out there between rains and grabbed a couple of my Coleman camping lanterns to bring in just in case we did lose power... I only have about 6 of those things... (I love to camp)

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

That is nice. Be sure to post a pic up when you're done!

Got the Maple tops for the new bench refinished this week and mounted them to the frame yesterday.

I still have to put a notch in the top for the rolling table where a leg for the new bench is, that will allow the table to roll completely under the new bench. Right now it sticks out a couple of inches.

I started to cad up a new garage layout last winter, and then my computer crashed. All of that is still on the old computer. I would like to find a better spot for the Quincy compressor stuffed into the corner......

And a better place for the mill to occupy. I can still pull my truck in with plenty of room, but if I have the plow on I can't walk around the front or the back. Something needs to move! Seems like this is a never ending problem at my house. At least the saw is on wheels so it can easily be moved.

OoOoo... Is that a ship's Clock/Barometer/Tide set I see there on the wall? Funny that I noticed that because at this very moment i'm in the middle of refinishing the brass case for my 40 year old Chelsea Ship's Bell (a clock). The lacquer had seen better days and the brass was beginning to get tarnished, so I carefully removed the clock movement, took the case/door/etc apart, stripped the lacquer, and thoroughly polished it up. As I type this I'm waiting for the Mohawk Brass Lacquer to dry so I can reassemble.

Here are a few pics of it "before".

Brb... gonna shoot a picture of the movement. I'm a mechanically inclined person who can rebuild engines and other complex things, but one look at the clocks internals resulted in instant "don't even think about cleaning/oiling it". lol.

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

Saturday morning cleaned out the greenhouse behind the garage from the remains of the tomatoes, melons and chilis. Went in for lunch and started to feel like **** so went to bed in the afternoon with chills and aching kidneys. Felt even worse on Sunday as it's turned into the stomach bug from hell and I can't get more than ten feet from the toilet. I learnt the hard way twice (admittedly once in my sleep) not to trust a fart!

Added a new shop light to the garage. Worked on my Goldwing, think the problem was with the kill switch, cleaned it up a bit. Starting every time at present.

wow:thumbup: looks way tooo nice to work on!

Thanks!

It is. It's left over from my drag racing days. I used that for data collection back in the 80s, before electronics took over predicting ETs! Now it just decorates my garage wall.

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

The in-laws came over for dinner last night, so I enlisted their help to hang my wall cabinets. Elcheapo HomeDepot/Lowes unfinished specials, but they will do the job. Also cut the toe kick off of the bottom of the base cabinets, cut out the molding on the wall, set the back of the cabinet on the foundation wall and used stainless Ikea legs for the front. Now just to cut some filler strips for the wall cabinets (wall cabinets come to 10' exactly, base countertop was 10' 1/2" and I left 1/4" gap on either side to fill with caulk for any possible expansion), apply laminate sheet to sides of tall cabinets, and set my workbench top.

Concept

Reality

Untitled by wrfalcon75, on Flickr

Original idea was to continue the tall skinny cabinet down to the workbench and put a shelf there, but decided that area just to the left of that cabinet under the shorter cabinet door would make a handy spot for a paper towel roll holder instead, and retain my workbench real estate.

You can also see the beginnings of the shop stereo, a cheap chinese :lol_hitti 2.1 amplifier, two 6.5" kenwood speakers in 6" PVC pipe that will be the "headlights" in a 71/72 C10 grille that will hang on the wall over the cabinets, and a 12" Infinity subwoofer and box I got from my brother in law, yes I know there is a Kenwood sticker on the box, it was made for a Kenwood subwoofer he had, he pulled the sub, and put this one in it, no I haven't checked the volume and port tuning to see if it fits for this subwoofer, but for the acoustics in the garage it sounds pretty decent. I'll probably build a shelf and hang it up out of the way below the workbench and later add a 12v power supply I have, 12v battery, and a bluetooth headunit I have along with a couple more speakers.

Untitled by wrfalcon75, on Flickr

Also started up, stirred the gas and let the old dually run up to operating temp, haven't started it in a couple months with all that's been going on, so she was feeling a bit neglected.

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

I got absolutely nothing at all done but work on a brand new computer, and ended up losing everything I had loaded onto it. Just a heads up for some, and I don't know whether I got bullshitted into buying a wireless adapter or not, but Saturday night, the computer lost it's wireless connection. So yesterday morning I decided to work on the problem. The computer would not show any wireless connections to connect with.

I kept getting Error 651 which state that there is an ethernet cable unplugged. Come to find out that Error 651 is a common problem with Windows 7 and 8. So I thought I would do a System Restore first. Well ******* me hit System Recovery and not restore. Yep....I took it back to like it was when I bought it. So I called Office Max where I bought the computer and the tech told me to bring it in. Just to back up a minute, to fix it myself you go into My Computer, C Drive, Programs, System 32, then find the file raspppoe.sys, then you have to rename it. Simple except the computer would give me Admin rights even though I am the Admin.

So I take it back to the store. If I've had it longer than two weeks it's a $30 bench charge. I've had it three weeks, but I'm keeping my patience in check. I told him that everything had been working fine, Time Warner put in their new router for phone, TV, and High SPeed Internet. The Wireless adapter is a Cisco Jump drive that I bought when I purchased my wireless router last year. Two hours later he says he has it fixed. Windows 8 is not compatible with the Cisco Adapter. He said he tried 8 different ones and not one would work, but he put in another type (not sure what type it is right off) and everything worked as it should. So I guess I had to go with what he stated although he never changed the file in the computer.

And for anyone thinking about getting a computer with Windows 8.....My opinion.....it ***** bigtime. I absolutely hate it with a passion. People complained about W7 over XP. W8 make W7 look really simple. I get totally lost with it. For one, your main page is a page of 1000 Apps. You don't start out with the Taskbar at the bottom. To get to that, you have to move your mouse to the upper right or lower right corner, then a window come out from the side showing your settings and such. There is no start button like in previous versions. But I guess a person has to stay up with things.

Then to top it off, I had to get my mail working again. So I got in touch with Time Warner to get the parameters setup. That is a "Chat" session with them. I get a guy that doesn't have a single clue, and then he tells me to call Microsoft because Time Warner techs have not been trained in Windows 8 yet. WTF? It has nothing to do with Windows 8, it has to do with Outlook 2010. So that was an hour wasted with him. Now I have to dig out the old computer and get all of my files off of it that gladly I didn't wipe the hard drive yet. New computers are a pain in the caboose.

So I never got my conduit ran yesterday, and that is todays agenda right after paying bills. What a waste of a weekend this was.

Cleared the left side of the garage to the right side to get access to the ladder hanging on that wall. Decided it was too windy to go on the roof, so I sorted thru some of the wardens boxes she still hasnt moved into the house. Rolled the snowblower in from the shed. Time to get it check out this week.

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

This weekend I spent over 20 hours doing a paint correction for a friend's 2007 Toyota Tundra 4 door 4x4 "work truck". This was the most challenging correction I've ever done as there was little to no clear coat left in many spots. Trying to balance between leaving enough to protect and removing enough to make a difference was difficult. The owner was well informed of the situation before I took liberties with the DA. He was very pleased with the results.

On to the PICS!!

As I received it. Notice the matte looking finish

I always clean up headlights when they are in need. I'd say these qualified:

Once I washed, clayed, washed, clayed, washed... I pulled it under the lights to get a better look.

Here's a 50/50 shot of a test spot on the hood:

After some time polishing I made some progress:

And some finished pics after 2 days of working on it. I also did a minimal clean on the interior and engine compartment - but nothing really worth posting. I just can't give one back with a dirty interior.

That last pic looks very dull... that is the morning dew on the truck. I promise it was all very glossy :) At least you can see it is white again in that one.

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

It sure made a difference and looks great. Myself, I have always hated dealing with white vehicles though. It seems like they get dull quicker than most, or at least they did in the past. Today, clear coat is clear coat no matter what color it is over. White just makes things harder to see. I need to get on my wife's Solara this winter and detail it out as it's been better than a year since it was waxed, let alone buffed. Luckily it sets in the garage most of the time though.

Last weekend I finally painted the recumbent frame I built.

Also squared away the photo cell problem I was having.

Lastly, lugged the old washer/dryer out of my basement and new one into it.

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

Pulled the plug wires from under headers to look for burned or cracked spots. The car has recently developed a stumble/miss shortly after my son had it somewhere. Sure enough, a couple of wires had burn spots from the header. I have the 6" woven heat protective sleeves on them but the wires just got moved around somehow. So ordered a new set from Summit Racing to go over the valve covers rather than under the headers and some different wire separators. Also installed a used "tach signal filter" that I got from an auto salvage this weekend, to replace the one that quit working last week.

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

Last night after work I raised the Duramax and dropped the pan, got the wiring out of the way in preperation to drop the valve body and install the shift kit.

I would have gotten it done but I did something to my foot and could hardly walk last night. I figured it was a good time to stop and let the transmission drip off while I went in the house and soaked my foot and rested it. Seems like things keep getting in my way of finishing my truck.

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

In last couple days:

Checked out wipers on son's Saturn. Drivers side wasn't working. Long story short, splines inside the arm were gone, would wipe about 5 times, then loose time and get jammed up with the passengers side wiper.

Repainted a shelf, managed to get a good coat of blue paint dust on the floor.

Checked out seat belt buckle that wouldn't latch on our Explorer. Button wouldn't work at all. Looked like it got shoved in further than it should. Took it off seat, put in a vice, tried to pull it back out. Workbench moved more than button did. Then I noticed some soda pop residue. Hmmm. Soaked the buckle in hot water about 5 minutes, tried again, it worked! Now working great.

I feel your pain on windows 8. It's a real PAIN to work with. I bought a new laptop and its been 4 weeks and I'm still screwing with it. I can only take an hour or two at a time. The first day I bought it I almost through it at the wall.

Good luck all you Windows 8 owners.

Changed the coolant system flush in my son in laws F150 and put in antifreeze, still have some vacuum issues to track down. Most of it has been unhooked over the years or torn up. Put the final coat of pain on my flagpole. Maybe get it in the ground next week. Cleaned up the work bench. Finished taking the last few parts off the 73 Mustang parts car, all that is left is get the 9' out and send it to the scrapper.

Kevin54 - just install Windows version 8 - 1 and be done.

Is it really better? Someone on here was complaining that he had "upgraded" to 8.1, hated it and then found that he had to re-install Windows 8 to get rid of it. I too have been having problems with 8 and absolutely hate it.

Actually it does have a "53" block.
Truck has 140K miles on it, excessive crank case pressure and is literally a oil burner. Previous owners should have all their tools melted into spare parts for a Yugo.:willy_nil He bought it off craigslist in the Akron,OH area this past summer.

Son bought it and I wasn't able to go look at it(darn work schedule) and I would have told him to pass. Anyway it is a Emerald Green '97 Ram 2500, reg cab 4x4, 5spd. He installed the Carli suspension system, new wheels/tires, Banks twin ram, new turbo(HX40 style outlet) 4" exhaust. New LUK clutch kit and flywheel in boxes, trans coming out to check 5th gear nut as well.

Painted the head unit on my C-man 100 DP restoration. smeared on assembly lube on all the exposed machine parts to hamper rust. Almost done - just needs a few details polished up and she should go back together this weekend.

Just wish I could find a better ay to clean the working surfaces of the base plate and table, but it's a tool to be used not put in a museum.

Pic is after I pulled all the tape off where I had masked the machined surfaces. Also added a before pic for kicks.

I've really got to figure out how to post pics without them being turned 90*. No, I don't have photobucket yet.

Added a front bumper to the golf cart. You can mount a winch on it, but I doubt I will do that. I chose this one because it stuck out about the same as the basket above it. All the other brush guards were right up against the body and wouldn't have done anything to protect the basket from getting hit.
