Probably could be used for "storing large paper or plans" as the seller suggests.

I had access to some from a former workplace
I had thought about stacking some up to make a workbench and using the drawers to store tools.

I also thought about puting some on a rolling base and installing a steel top to make a mobile welding table and use the drawers to store the clamps and such

didnt do either as I am short on space

Great for tool drawers.
My son has 2 under his bench.
The drawers are both 2 1/2 and 5 inchs deep.
Shallow enough so everything stays only one layer deep and you don't have to go digging under stuff to find the tool you are looking for.
I watch the office funiture ads all the time.
Lots of cabinets and shelves.
Libary card catalogs, map and plat cabinets.
With computerized records taking over there is all kinds of stuff going out the back doors.

I'm always looking for flat files to store plans and drawings. They cost a fortune new and never seem to turn up locally on the used market. I did find a small pair through a local gov't supply liquidating company. I also have a large oak set that I use to store large format drawings.

I called the guy today and left a message. Don't know how I missed those, I am always on CL free stuff. I mean always.

It was a work number...not much hope for a call back:headscrat

My office is right next to the plan room at work, and every day I look at all those flat files in there and wish I could take a few of them home. They'd make great tool cabinets.

I have used one for the last 10 years for my primary tool box. But not anymore. Merry Xmas to ME!!!! I picked up a 56" CSPS tool box ($500)from a gate company going out of business. They also had a Miller 140 Autoset with cart still in the boxes ($600)

My son pointed them out to me a couple of days ago. He was saying how nice they would be for storing his painting canvas's in. It didn't even dawn on me to use them for tools until yesterday.:headscrat

We have cabinets like this for storing aerial map mylars and parcel overlays, in our Assessors office. We haven't got into the 20th century yet (let alone the 21st) but I'm hoping we will get new aerials and a GIS system soon. We will be able to share the GIS with the other county departments and they can have overlays created for what they need, such as location of all fire hydrants, storm drains, or power poles.

When they do get ready to go out the door, I hope its into the back of my truck. These are great for tools and such.

I know a restoration/custom build shop that has a set of those. He bought a pair of every tab and bracket in the Alston, S&W and The Chassis Shop catalogs, got some dividers for those drawers (made, bought, re-appropriated, dunno) and then took one of those yellow paint markers the junk yards use and wrote the part number on each. Now when he's working on a fabrication project, he can go over to the drawers of pre-fab'd tabs and brackets, find the exact one he needs, mock it up and then order them for final assembly.

I've wanted one of those files for a while. My wife is also an artist, and has need of one for her art studio to store canvas, paper and finished pieces.

For the guys who are close to these, are they anywhere near Martinsville? I've got a friend in the Martinsville area that could sit on them for me for a while. I'd be a freakin' hero if I scored a set for my wife!

In my experince, they go fast if on CL.
BY that I mean hours.
Best bet has been county or private auctions.
The last set I bought was bundled in with 12 office chairs.
Before the auction was over I had sold 10 of the chairs to another guy.
I an sitting in one of the 2 I kept.
