Hi everyone

Soon ill be renovating a 20 year old unfinished building into my home and garage. My father built it when i was 5, im 24 now, and it was never finished it. I was roofed then filled up with motorcycles, and thats it. Footprint is 24'x 36' and its three stories, third story being 16'x16'. The shingles are old and i plan on putting a metal roof on it, with insulation between the shingles and metal roofing. We have added on to it over the years, first my dads work shop, then more storage out front.

The entire first floor will be the garage - shop. the addition to the front is also 24'x36', 2/3 of it will be used as storage for motorcycles and trucks.

Anyway on to phase 1. First we will build a 12'x48' attached garage to the side. This will be primarily for storage while the house is finished out. We will use 2x4 aluminum studs and 6'x8' tempered glass panels for the walls. The upper portion will be a 2nd story screened in deck for the house.

On to the pictures. We rented a track hoe to move alot of dirt and dig the footer for the slab.

Thanks for looking. Ill update as we progress. Ill be asking for alot of advice when the actual garage build starts.

and to humor you guys ill show you what ive been working out of the last 10 months.

This is my single car garage i have at my apartment complex. Its about 10'x18', guessing as ive never measured, and its packed.

Right now ive got my welding table, tig and mig welder, compressor, tubing bender, misc saws and grinders all running off a single 20 amp shared breaker. My neighbor runs his home made cnc machine off the same breaker too. All that and my truck and 4 motorcycles in there, like i said its tight.

and i had to move one of our hunderds of projects while clearing for the new addition

My dad collects antique aluminum boats, so we have a few.

Cool project! What part of TN are you in?

I live in south Nashville now but this shop is in North Chattanooga.

Going to be interesting, sub'ing!

Looking forward to it. Take LOTS of pictures:D

Welcome from a fellow Volunteer!

Thanks guys

Gonna scribe to this one.. What's that in the garage? Bagged I assume...

Thats my Mazda B2000. Its static about 2 inches from the ground. I plan on body dropping it eventually. Im in the process of finishing my tube front clip and wiring it at the moment. Ive machined alot of 1 off suspension parts for it. Its built to drift, one day.

here are some pictures of the shop on the other side of the house. These are old and we were sealing it up better for winter, years ago. From now on this shop will be reffered to as my "dads shop" and the new one in progress will be "my shop"

very little progress lately. Between working 60 to 80 hours a week and the terrible weather we have been having there hasnt been much time to work.. We did manage to get the forum built and get the huge stump ground and gone. He are supposed to get the concrete poured this week but everyone is 2 or 3 weeks behind due to weather.

concrete is poured. They estimated 9 yerds which i thought was a little low, but i trusted them since they do it every day. Turns out we needed 12 yards and they poured me a ramp because they brought extra concrete. Im sure the ramp will bust since it wasnt dug out but we needed to dump the extra somewhere.

We are keeping it for now trying to decide what we want to do with it. Would you guys believe we found it in a scrapyard? It couldnt have been worth much as scrap, and who would do such a thing?

Great looking building.

I'd love to see images of some of your dad's aluminum boats.

Thanks ill take some pictures sometime. His favorite is a lonestar built in texas in the 50s using WWII bomber equipment. The entire thing is rivited together.

No I can not believe it!! Why can't I find things like that! I guess they are just old cars to some people!

Yes I am aware of that. The stump is about 5 foot away from the slab, so hopefully we won't have any serious problems. I'm sure there are still some pretty large roots underneath but I made the footer extra deep to hopefully compensate. Only time will tell.

Looking good! Glad to see something going on in Chattanooga.
I dig the bike builds.

Ha I'm in soddy daisy too, right off of Hixson pike on the lake. You must be up on mowbray mtn. I go up hot water an mowbray all the time on my bikes or car. I can't get enough of the tight twisty roads.
