A local guy moved to Missouri and is selling off some of his machine shop, is this worth $800? He has all the missing plastics/shields, they are just removed so he can move it.

Depends, does it fully work as is? What are your plans for it? Do you know how to run it. From what I remember about those, if the factory electronics go out you are SOL, and better off doing a DIY controller. It would be good for a retrofit, if you are inclined to do so.

You could retro manual controls on to that thing and still 800 would be a steal in my opinion.

I've got the idea of how to run it, but I'm no machinist - I'm just an engineer:lol_hitti
I'd definitely want to see it run first.

Not sure on what I'd use it for but gun parts, truck parts, and things around the farm could surely be made...

I guess I'm wondering if this would be a good path to go down or if I should just keep my eye out for a more "standard" bridgeport

Just depends on what you want and need. Realize it is not a manual mill, nor as versatile as a standard J head, manual with DRO bridgport. If it works and you have the $ avaiable I would pick it up. Keep in mind the 3ph, I wonder how he is running it now? Converter or does he have incoming 3ph. :dunno:

JMHO but I'd be freakin amazed if the control was still fully functional on that machine, its definitely old. That being said, if it comes with spindle tooling $800 is a deal. If not, its on the high end of fair for a dead machine. Regardless, dont think youre going to buy it for $800 and retrofit it for $500 and be done, its going to take another serious chunk of a change and a LOT of time to get it straightened out.

Personally, I'd pass.
