Here's some stuff from an auction I went and stood in the blowing snow and cold for yesterday.. Turns out the weather scares people away..

Here's the whole lot showing a bunch of miscellaneous screw-drivers that were in the box with all the ratchets and extensions.

All in all-not bad I don't think for $35

Pretty sure this is the understatement of the century! You **** royaly for only paying $35. Just a few items in there would equal $35.

Well I managed to hit the auction tonight but didn't do as well as I hoped.
Certainly the hand tool came from the same clearance as last weeks lots but no joy on the snap on hunt.
I ended up buying 3 lots
View media item 35971This is the best of the two tool lots.
Left hand side of the wood rule consists of more English wood chisels, English adjustables and the spanners across the top are all metric West German HEYCO.
Cool little grease gun from "Tecalemit"
The blue vice is the cheapest tinpot Chinese style, good for only holding notes :(
At the bottom is a scary cool knife, made from a slab of steel with leather riveted to the tang.

To the right of the wood rule......
View media item 35972Are the "freaks", these came from the second lot and are all manner of weird shapes, sizes and number of heads! Few have any markings so I assume they are for specific machines/vehicles.
The items at the top of the pic are a dozen rusty folding 2' steel rules, guess I can clean and sell them!
At the right of the pic the pile of shiney spanners are going in the charity/friends pile, something I started to do as I have so many multiples of same sizes (its mainly Chinese/Indian made of course )
Combined both lots cost me £22, but divide by 45 tools I'm keeping it works out the right side of Deal. ;)

Finally picked up my first genuine leatherman and a fully stainless penknife.

View media item 35973
Both clean, straight and sharp. The knife is etched "JOHN-BENZEN TOOLS Div of CHICAGO TOOLS"
£12.

.................AND THE WINNER OF THE 2014 GARAGE SALE THREAD STARTER IS..................nine4gmc:thumbup::thumbup: (Auld Lange Syne playing in the background)!!

Outlaw is definitely the winner and deserves the torch. Beware Outlaw. This could be like being on the cover of Madden Games. Jeff Moss being the exception to the rule.

I think, even more important, who got the deal of the year? Lets see some votes onthat. . . Include post number in your vote.

This is an interesting idea...but it would be so hard to administer. Plus, inevitably people will start wanting to "win" the recognition, and begin to exaggerate (lower) the prices they paid. Then no one will believe what anyone else paid for anything.

Also, we all find times when we simply cannot take the time to photo and post many items we buy. This last half of the year, I haven't posted even 50% of my tool buys...even though I always intend to.

Still, I must admit the idea is appealing.

I think a better idea is to have an "Honorable mention" at the end of the year, without any voting on who got the "best deal" Just a recap of things each of us thought someone else got that were worth a mention throughout he year. That way those that don't generally follow the thread like the regulars can have a quick look at the last few pages during the "dead time"

We can even do it after the last day while we are working the new thread...

Honestly, think you two would easily be in the top 3 for best deal of the year, lol

Not necessarily, at least with my suggestion; It would not about a person, it would be about some thing you saw and thought was a great deal, or simply a great find, and that often comes down to seeing something you would have been all over given a chance.

I have had good luck this year with snap on counselor diagnostic machines, just picked up a MT3000A counselor II machine and stand for $100. It has 4 gas and all the adaptors.

I guess call me the "snap on counselor"

A-ha-ha-ha! Small world!
Yes, it had a dozen golf balls inside... gave them to my friend who plays :)
The seller was kind enough to bring it downtown.

It's worth the money if you replace the top with plywood or similar. I have the exact same one and the corners have all broken off because it's just MDF.

Thanks, Brendan, that's a good advice! The construction is not too sturdy, but I need some light stand for odd jobs. So when MDF will be gone I'll put nice piece of 2x6 instead.

I stopped at the flea market this past Saturday, threat of snow and really cold, so not many sellers.

Did get these: a pair of greasy 1"-drive impact sockets, a Proto 2-15/16, and an Armstrong 2-9/16. I initially was going to resell on eBay, as I really have no purpose for sockets this huge. However, who knows? I might get a part-time job wrenching on locomotives.

Oh, the pair cost me $10 together.

Went to a COLD (22°F) estate sale this morning. I got a high(ish) number, so had to wait while others found the good stuff in the basement. The house was really cramped with all the buyers, so I went outside to the sheds. All former uncleaned chicken coops (Ewwwwww). I grabbed a Kennedy 520 with a missing cover. I spent the next hour searching for the cover in vain, but for the price I can deal with it. Prices inside were high (they wanted $5 for a 2oz BP hammer). Outside they stuck an elder gentleman (76) by himself, with no help among 4 sheds spread out all over the yard. He was so pi$$ed that he was letting everything go for cheap. I got the box and whatever was in it for $9 ! :rocker:

Inside the box was :

an unmarked socket/tool tray
3pr of tweezers
Wiss #603 1/2 scissors
Nat'l Twist Drill Co. helical fluted chucking reamer
6" Craftsman adjustable wrench - JW
6 assorted files
assorted cutting bits for a metal lathe
4 pulleys
misc. aluminum and steel stock
True Temper 4oz BP hammer
Cheney 2oz BP hammer
and a few other odds and ends

The pics were taken after a quick wipe with SG and a run-though with a shop vac.

Does anyone have a spare #520 wrinkle brown cover ?
.

Here's a pic with the mid box I picked up last week. The 520 is 1 1/4" shorter than the mid box. Is there a 22" Kennedy model ?

YOU **** Jake

True Temper 2oz BP hammer
Cheney (1oz or .5oz) BP hammer

Can you post the dimensions on those please? Head diameter and head OAL? I'm trying to build a database.

Does anyone have a spare #520 wrinkle brown cover
.

That may be a pain to find, those typically go missing and are hard to find separate. It's not hard to make a nice one out of wood, but if you want the original, it is usually cheaper to find another box than to order a cover. That looks in really good condition, felt wise and all. I wonder if the cover is still floating around the house?

Way to go Duct Tape Man! I would not have passed those up at that price either.
