First I want to say I'm new here, been lurking on here for a while. I've been looking for a new tool box. I really like the Viper 72" tool box. 30" deep like some of the snap-on boxes really caught my attention. I was looking at a Snap On 7022 but at $5k its a lil too much for a 54" box IMO.

I've seen the Viper 72" box for less than $2700 shipped and it seems like a good box but I haven't seen any reviews on it. Hoping someone on here could shed some light on it. Is it worth it or should I keep looking? I really like the hutch also.

Thanks in advance,
Eric

Visited the site and called the company. Made in China. Buy a used Snappy for the same money and you will still be happy 10 years down the road.

The OP wanted a new Viper Roller, the Strictly Toolboxes roller cabinets are as good, heavier (more/better steel), heavier load rated, free freight, and some come with free stainless steel tops...

Used truck brand stuff can be nice, and if priced right, can be a good deal...but the OP wants a new box...now...

Will SnapOn/Matco/etc sell him a new 72x30x46", 1,150 lb delivered free box, with a stainless steel top for under three large???----NOPE!!!

"Similar" stuff, new---lower price---HMMM...

The OP was looking at a KRL7022 but didn't like the price of new. He will be much happier spending 3k on a used KRL 2 or 3 bay than a new Viper.

Well I had a chance to buy a classic 78 box a while back that was a repo but the guy ahead of me got it. I'm open to suggestions on boxes.

Honestly I like the way the hutch is built for the viper box with the slide out vertical sides drawers and the power outlets inside. I just assumed it would be a nice box considering it weighs 9xx lbs. It looks good but that doesn't mean anything.

A little background info on me. I work in a body shop as a painter but I'm also doing this and that all the time, small town but we are one of the bigger shops around. I've got several tools as it is but would like a big box to grow into. I've also decided a hutch is a must for me. It will probably be spring time before I purchase a box but would like to figure out which one. I've been on the mentioned website and looked at the Montezuma boxes and Extreme and the others. Are there any problems I should know of with any of the 30" deep 72" boxes?

Well the way I was looking at it the Snap On 7022 plus the hutch would set me back over $8000.... my wife would kill me. Plus its only a 53-54" box. The others are 72" and with a hutch a little bit over $4000 so that's a big difference for me. I have looked at a few used boxes but most had more wear than I care for. I'd rather buy something new as it will probably be the only big box I ever buy.

I've heard great things about the Viper boxes. I've been looking at boxes lately for a future purchase several months from now. I've been considering Viper or some of the Strictly Tool Boxes ones. I e-mailed Viper asking if they had any on display close to me. The guy who responded apologized that they didn't have any on display, but told me that if I wasn't satisfied they would pay return shipping. I've felt some of the smaller ones on display at Sears and they feel very solid, nothing like the cheap thin gauge metal Craftsman ones.

The Viper boxes aren't made in the USA, but I think the Viper boxes might be made in Canada with parts source globally, at least I think that's what the Viper guy told me. Don't hold me to that. Aren't a lot of the newer trucks boxes made in USA with globally sourced parts? Cornwell Tools also has a decently priced, I think 75" box. I think it's only 24-25" deep though.

Yea I've seen a few of the smaller Viper boxes and they seemed nicer compared to the Craftsman boxes beside them. My local big Sears store is closing and none of the small stores have anything that big. Going by the weight on the Viper pro 72" (975lbs) it outweighs boxes like the Snap-On Master Series KRL7023 (785lbs). It must made out of some heavy steel.

Sounds like you're leaning towards the Viper. Sometimes they have displays at automotive events and such. You could try e-mailing them to see if they might have a display somewhere near you so you can go check them out. I remember reading someones impression of them who saw their display at a car show. He said they encouraged him to test the build quality by standing in the bottom drawers and jumping. I'm not sure how good of a test that is though.

Well after doing some reading and looking online, I believe I will end up buying a box from strictlytoolboxes.com

I like the Tool Vault Elite 72'' boxes, crazy how in some of the review pics people standing in the drawers. They seem to be similar to the snap-on boxes my rep has been trying to sell me for upwards of $8500....

The main reason I liked the Viper box was the upper Hutch design with the power and usb outlets along with the two slide out vertical pegboard drawers.

I do have some questions about the Tool Vault boxes, it says you can either get the lift and pull drawers or the detent style. Which is better? Or do I have anything to worry about with them? I'll be moving the box around the body shop a lot and don't want the drawers sliding out into a car or something.

The most for the least, is always a good way to go...:bounce::bounce::bounce:

Don't forget that you'll be running a small business, and lower costs=higher profits...:thumbup::thumbup:

Here's one I saw at Sears last night. Had never even heard of the viper brand and then I saw your thread inquiring about them. Seemed decent. I think the price was $489. I know this isn't the style you're looking at but I thought it was interesting.
